THE Metquarter in Liverpool on 7
August 2008, played host to a fashion show with clothes designed by
Liverpool designers. All the outfits were made from fabric and
clothing donated by the general public. The challenge, met by all
the designers, was to create 4 outfits, which were to form the show.
The outfit categories were:- Male Suits, Designers Choice,
Sportswear and Couture Inspired Gown. All the teams has just 3˝
weeks to design the outfits and had one male and one female model
assigned to them to exhibit their designs. Despite the very short
set up times, the event ran well and the audience was hugely
entertained by what was an extremely high standard of designs and
production by the 5 teams. On the Ally Mac team were Ally Mc and
Neil Paul Cooper. Heading up the university team, Liverpool John
Moore Students were Amie Price and Laura Mees-Harris. The Helen
Brown or Brown’s Boutique team from Southport designed some stunning
outfits. Naomi Williams who has just graduated from Thames Valley
University came up with designs inspired by Galliano for Dior.
Finally, came Sara Li-Chou Ha’s Team, with the talents of JMU
students, Mat Hughes and Sharon Fernandez backing up JMU graduate,
Sarah McGranaghan. It would be fantastic to see this event done
again, but next time, with more set up time given to the crew
putting the show on, on the night.
