Formby came out the blocks today with
purpose and spirit on the back of a good win last week. Town Green I
felt were unlucky at the start, as after only 6 mins Joe Maybury
opened the scoring from a corner when he delivered a great ball into
the box for it to glance a defenders leg, beating the keeper at the
near post.
That said, from the restart Formby applied the pressure and with 10
mins on the clock Lucas Gabriel seized possession in his own half
and tore at Town Green’s defence culminating in another Formby
corner. Sam Rimmer stepped up and delivered a fast accurate ball
that found Lewis Hill moving into space, and he headed home Formby’s
second with great conviction.
Mathew Smith and Ross Turpin where as solid as ever clearing the
lines at Formby’s rear, and talked well to each other when pressured
by Town Greens forwards.
The second half saw Lewis Doyle link up with Oliver Sutton who
outpaced his marker to shoot at goal. This resulted in a well
applauded save by Town Greens keeper. 6 minutes later Brian Thomas
attempted to lob the keeper whilst off his line, narrowly missing
the top of the bar.
On 33 minutes a deft move from Town Green saw them win a corner from
which a clever ball by their number eleven had Formby’s defence
startled. Fortunately for Formby the resulting shot was not
converted. Just minutes later and after winning his tackles Luke
Warden made a quick accurate pass to Lewis Doyle for onward delivery
to the left for a waiting Oliver Sutton. Oliver, in trademark
fashion, charged at the travellers lines and zipped a fantastic ball
to Brian Thomas who slotted home Formby’s third in style.
With the bit between his teeth a second goal for Brian Thomas was
always a possibility and just a few minutes later and after some
tough midfield tackling from Lewis Doyle and Luke Warden his chance
came. With a superb solo run and a well paced right side shot Brian
Thomas grabbed his second goal of the game.
Finally a shot again from Brian Thomas that hit the right hand post
to rebound out provided Luke Warden with the last goal of the second
half.
Under 10 - Fleetwood
Hesketh 2-3 Southport Trinity White
Fleetwood Hesketh entertained Southport
Trinity White in their first home game of the season today. The game
started brightly as did the weather. Both teams seemed to be well
matched in the beginning but it was Trinity who opened the scoring
ten minutes into the game only to be pegged back almost immediately
to one apiece after C. Harper latched on to a great through ball and
netted his fourth of the season.
Trinity scored their second, which again was closely followed by an
equaliser when K.Bell fired the ball in and neither defender nor
keeper could prevent it from finding the net.
J.Hart and S Gradwell where again strong
at the back but it was J.McCall in goal who won Man of the Match for
Fleetwood Hesketh having made some very competent saves and
confident decisions.
Trinity won the game when Fleetwood failed to clear and the ball was
convincingly stuck home from close range. Although Fleetwood pressed
hard through K.Bell, K.Wilson and C.Harper, dominating the last few
minutes, the combination of an on in form Trinity keeper and some
last ditch defending thwarted them.
Redgate Rovers Black 0-6
Southport Trinity Blue
Redgate got the match going but it was
Trinity who settled the quicker and wasn't long before they took the
lead, S.Wallbank holding the ball up before sliding a pass to
L.Harwood who finished well.
Trinity pushed forward again winning a few corners which we added a
second from A.Thorpe getting a slight touch on a near post corner.
This seemed to spark Redgate into life as they forced M.Cottam to
save twice before tipping one round the post, Trinity then pushed
forward again J.Wallbank and L.Harwood both going close, but it was
L.Harwood who broke free again after good work from J.McCormack to
slot past the keeper.
Just before the half time whistle went J.Wallbank added a fourth,
blasting in from a few yards out.
The second half was much of the same with Trinity attacking and it
wasn't long before L. Harwood completed his hat trick. After going
past a couple of players he calmly tucked it away.
Redgate came out to make a game of it A.Thorpe and F.Anelli kept it
tight but when Redgate broke through M.Cottam did well to keep a
clean sheet.
L.Harwood added a further goal towards the end and put in a
brilliant display, but man of the match went to Joe Wallbank for his
endless running and great vision.
Under 11 - Town Green
9-1 Formby FC Juniors
It wasn’t all bad news though as Formby
looked quite lively in the opening 10 minutes despite going a goal
down after just two minutes. Formby lacked the aggression which they
used to their full advantage in their last match against Birkdale
United but it was never going to be easy after Town Green added a
second and a third.
There was some hope as Lloyd fired in a shot, which was deflected to
Adam Cullen, and he fired home from close range giving Formby hope.
It was the first goal that any team has scored against Town Green
this season.
Aaron Taylor was solid at the back and saved the day for Formby with
a fine clearance off the line and Dan Gardiner made some fine stops
as the first half went on.
Town Green added two more just before the break to seal Formby's
fate.
In the second half, with all the time and space Town Green had, they
went on a scoring spree.
Despite the defeat, against the team that will probably win the
Craven League title, Formby can take a few positives from the game.
One other mention must go to the referee who had a superb game.
Man of the match was Adam Cullen.
Under 12 - Southport
FC Juniors 9-1 Ainsdale Juniors (Midweek Fixture)
Missing key players and their keeper
SJFC needed to take charge and that’s exactly what they did. Ryan
Pytel and James Smith caused Ainsdale Juniors major problems, both
strikers are on magnificent form netting goal after goal for SJFC.
Zac Evans dominated Southport’s defence by being first to every ball
using Gary Grier on the wing creating a move enabling James Smith to
score his first of many goals. A well placed ball from midfield
found Owen Drummond one on one with the keeper where he headed the
ball out of the keepers reach and into the back of the net.
Manager Rick Bainbridge felt comfortable enough in the second half
to make changes; Robson Baldwin in goal for the first half was back
where he belonged on the wing making a superb run when his attempt
on goal found James Smith arriving in the box to score his fourth
goal.
Ryan Pytel found himself in defence but that didn’t stop him
striking a thunderous shot on target from close to the half way
line. An excellently place corner from Sam Johnson was pounced on by
Josh Martin netting him his second goal of the game.
Ainsdale`s goal came from a well taken penalty that produced a well
deserved goal. Ainsdale`s keeper did exceptionally well against a
strong attacking Southport side. This evening fixture was played in
an excellent sporting manner, well done to both sides.
Under 15 - Town Green
3 - 4 West Lancs Colts
A match of missed chances summed up this
match.
West Lancs started the ball rolling early in the first half when a
cross from the right was converted into the net.
Within minutes Town Green were level. Paul McKay received the ball
from a throw took a few paces and drove the ball home.
The remainder of the first half Town Green had several glorious
chances to increase the lead but failed to convert them.
In the second half Town Green took the lead to 3-1 with Matty
Blasbery passing to Henry Brown who hit a long high ball over the
keeper and into the net.
The third goal was some neat passing between Nathan and Jamed Edgar
who turned inside the box and scored with a low shot.
West Lancs then started to gain the midfield and went on to score
with a shot inside the area.
The equalizer came from a run down the left wing cut in and the shot
cannoned of the bar to the West Lancs attacker to tap in.
With minutes to go West Lancs won a contentious free kick and the
result was a ball fed to the back post, knocked down and a shot was
hit into the net to secure the points.
A great game to watch for the neutral.
