THE
PRINCESS ROYAL TO GIVE ROYAL SEAL OF APPROVAL TO LIVERPOOL ONE
LIVERPOOL is
gearing up to a Royal fanfare on 1 October 2008 to celebrate the
completion of the second phase of Liverpool ONE, the £1bn
city-centre regeneration aptly titled ‘Access all Areas’.
At midday on Wednesday, 1 October 2008 The Princess Royal will
unveil a plaque marking the official opening of Liverpool ONE.
She will be joined by the Duke of Westminster, who will say a few
words on behalf of Grosvenor, the developer of the 42-acre scheme.
Greeted by an impressive fanfare on the city’s Sugarhouse Steps
leading up to Chavasse Par, HRH the Princess Royal will commence the
celebration of the completion of the second chapter of the Liverpool
ONE story, declaring Chavasse Park and Liverpool ONE fully
accessible across all areas.
Joanne Jennings, Chief Executive of the Liverpool ONE, said:-
“Liverpool ONE is the largest development of its type in Europe and
we are delighted to share the opening of the next exciting chapter
in the Liverpool ONE story with The Princess Royal. This royal
visit, the second this summer, recognises the cultural and economic
impact that Liverpool ONE will make in its revitalisation of this
proud city and concretes its position as a landmark achievement in
this momentous year. We are thrilled that we will be joined by
Princess Anne to share in the excitement of the city as the next
stage of Liverpool ONE opens to the public for the first time.”
Alongside the opening of the 5 acre Chavasse Park will be more key
shops and leisure facilities, including the newly built Leisure
Terrace featuring many new restaurants alongside a new fourteen
screen Odeon cinema, all benefiting from a stunning panorama to the
Docks, one of the finest views in the city.
As widely reported at the time, Phase 1 launch of Liverpool ONE was
brought forward in order to open out Liverpool City Centre to the
tens of thousands of Liverpudlians and tourists flocking to the city
to celebrate Capital of Culture. The launch saw hundreds of
thousands of people come through the city in one day to see what was
behind those hoardings.
1 October 2008 will see the remaining streets, park and Leisure
Terrace open to the public for the very first time with a monumental
all day street festival celebrating access all areas; even bigger
and better than the impressive Phase 1 launch.
The celebrations culminate in a breath-taking firework finale at
10pm, lighting up the skies over Liverpool.
Seen for miles across the region, the stunning firework display will
be set to music, building the excitement as Batman-style search
beams bathe the skies above the city in light, before the finale
reaches its climax to a wave of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ from the crowds
below filling the newly opened Chavasse Park and Leisure Terrace.
Joanne Jennings, CEO of Liverpool ONE commented:- “We can’t
wait for the firework finale... It will be a fitting climax to
the Access all Areas event, the ultimate show finale to wrap up
another chapter in the unfolding story of Liverpool ONE. The
fireworks will fill the sky above Liverpool, launched from the top
of The Hilton and One Park West as well as released from the Docks -
the perfect dramatic metaphor for the unification of the new
developments within the city centre marking both the future, and the
history and heritage of the city’s Docks.
The streets of Liverpool ONE will be filled with visitors, spilling
onto Chavasse Park and the newly opened Leisure Terrace for the very
first time, but all residents of the region, from the city centre
right out to the Wirral, will be able to see the fireworks and
celebrate with us.”
1 October 2008 will see the remaining streets, park and terrace open
to the public for the very first time with a monumental all day
street festival – even bigger and better than impressive Phase 1
launch.
Focusing on the new Chavasse Park and the stunning Leisure Terrace
the festival will feature fashion shows, street artists and
musicians culminating with the firework finale that will light up
the skies over Liverpool inviting visitors to access all areas for
the first time.
The event in the evening is being co-ordinated by a group called
Spirit, and it will be "quite a blast" according to
LiverpoolONE PR representative, Rita Rowe, she also added that:-
"The firework display will be set up and fired by Salisbury
based,
Pains Fireworks. Pains are
one of Europe’s leading professional display companies, established
in 1835 and this year they became the first UK company to win the
Golden Jupiter award at Montreal's International Firework Festival.
This pyrotechnic group will put on an amazing show around the 5 acre
Chavasse Park, but I can let you readers know that it will also be
visible from the Mersey. I cannot give any more information
than that, but the people in Liverpool will have an amazing show to
end our day of celebrations."
