Formby JSC A 6-1 Ormskirk FC
A great game of
football with Formby starting very well and scoring an early goal.
Ormskirk started to fight back after the early pressure and put
Formby under a lot of pressure that pressure paying of with Matthew
Hampson Birks scoring an absolute screamer.
In the 2nd half
Formby showed there class and put Ormskirk under a lot of pressure
and the game finished 6-1 to Formby but Ormskirk deserve a lot of
credit because they made it a great game.

Fleetwood Hesketh 5-3 Redgate Rovers Black
Following an early morning pitch inspection and some welcome
sunshine, both teams began the game on a heavy but fast drying
surface. Both teams where determined from the start and
settled quickly. It was Redgate who opened the scoring today
with a well worked goal beating keeper J, McCall with a looping shot
from a tight angle
Despite this
Fleetwood gained the initiative and pressed hard for the rest of the
half and were rewarded when C.Harper received an early ball from
K.Wilson and beat 2 defenders before M.Howard ran across his path
and finished low to the right of the keeper form just inside the
box.
The 2nd half
continued in the same vein and Fleetwood proceeded to dominate the
earlier exchanges, eventually scoring again through S.Gradwell and
K.Wilson. The 1st of these was to come after a crowded Redgate box
left 2 or 3 Fleetwood players frustrated, S.Gradwell included until
he found some space and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
The later of the 2goals came when K.Wilson crossed from the left
with pace and an unfortunate fumble from the otherwise faultless
Redgate keeper found the net. Perhaps the best goal of the day
came from C.Harper when he proved that attention in training really
does pay off timing his run perfectly to step onto a fine corner and
bury the ball into the net with his head.
Credit must go to
Redgate’s players as they never let there heads drop and managed to
score 2 goals on the break making the final score 5-3. Another
mention must go to Redgate’s replacement Keeper who did equally as
well as his predecessor and saved a number of times to keep the game
alive. Thanks also to Luke Timmis who refereed today’s game
letting the game flow despite some strong, but on the whole fair,
challenges.

Formby FC 1-4 Southport Trinity
Formby FC Juniors lost their 100% home record on Saturday morning
against Southport Trinity but it wasn’t through lack of grit and
determination after a superb 2nd half performance from Ian
Robinson’s boys as they penned Trinity back into their own half for
long periods of the half.
Unfortunately it is a
game of 2 halves and after a poor 1st period, Formby were always
chasing the game. Formby began the game brightly but it soon went
wrong as Trinity scored 3 times inside 10 minutes. Formby
began to show some signs of a recovery as the half went on and Sam
Carragher easily went round one defender then another before finding
Max Robinson who’s shot was well saved by the keeper. In the
very 1st minute after the break Southport Trinity grabbed their 4th
after a terrible scramble inside the 6 yard box. Formby’s
heads went down but Patrick Travers set Sam Carragher away and he
was much too tricky for the Southport Trinity defenders as he was
hauled down at the third attempt by the defender right on the edge
of the penalty area. Harry Mills stepped up and smashed the ball
over the keeper and into the back of the net.
Formby then came to
life as Matthew Lloyd was beginning to tackle hard but fair and once
Patrick Travers followed his lead the whole team began to fight for
every ball and firmly took the game by the scruff of the neck.
Matthew Lloyd slipped a great ball through to Sam Carragher who
looked like he was going to score until a superb tackle denied him a
shot on goal. Max Robinson was battling well and found Matthew Lloyd
who threaded a ball through to Sam Carragher but the visiting keeper
was out well to clear the danger. Patrick Travers then headed on to
Thomas Drela but he was closed down by the defence before he could
get a shot off. By now Formby were winning every 50/50 ball but just
couldn’t turn all their possession into goals.
Today’s man of the
match award went to Harry Mills who was good going forward but when
asked to play at the back he excelled as Southport Trinity failed to
break Formby down. Shaun Jackson-Guy had a great game in goal and
his handling and kicking was superb.
