Southport Remembers
Photographs by Patrick Trollope
ON Sunday, 9
November 2008, Southport held its Remembrance Service at the
Cenotaph, on Lord Street. Despite the weather, the
event went well, with a large turn out. Some of the participants
were recently in action in Afghanistan and in Iraq, which brought it
home to people that it was not just past wars that this yearly event
helps us to remember. "It is good to see the young faces
taking part this year. Often people say that this event glorifies
war, but how does remembering the dead, who gave their lives for our
freedom do that? It is a day we remember the horror of war and the
people who laid down their lives to keep us safe in all wars, past
and present. We must keep this event going past our generation and
into the future generations." an 82-year-old ex-soldier told
me. These are a few photographs from the event.
