Ormskirk FC 4-2 Birkdale United
Another excellent
performance from Ormskirk with some slick passing again on show.
Ormskirk attacked from the 1st whistle and within 5 mins they were 1
up with a well worked free kick by Matthew Hampson Birks which was
finished well by Andrew Torr.
Ormskirk continued to pile the pressure on Birkdale keeping them in
there half for long periods Birkdale did manage to break away and
got a well finished goal to draw level.
In the 2nd half, again straight from the refs whistle, Ormskirk took
a hold of the game and before long Andrew Torr scored his 2nd, but
yet again Birkdale refused to give and their efforts paid off with
another very good finish to put the game at 2-2. Birkdale
began to put Ormskirk under a bit of pressure but Ormskirk calmed
down and stepped up a gear. Andrew Torr’ slipped a pass through to
Luke Dwane who finished well to put Ormskirk 3-2 up but this time
Ormskirk pressed on and before long were 4-2 up with a good finish
from Josh Forest.

Formby FC Juniors 1-0 Ainsdale
It was a breath of
fresh air to see 2 sides competing on a level keel as this sort of
game keeps the Craven Minor League alive and kicking as both sides
contested from start to finish in one of the closest games of the
season. Add to that some excellent refereeing and this is what
football at this level is all about. There were chances at both
ends, the woodwork was hit on no less than 3 occasions, penalty
appeals came and went and some fine goalkeeping ensured that this
game was hearts in mouths stuff from start to finish in one of the
best games that I have experienced all season. It made a refreshing
change from the maulings that both these sides have suffered this
season and the players on both sides didn't give up right until that
final whistle came.
Formby FC Juniors started the brighter as Ainsdale failed to clear
their lines and Joe Sudlow pounced but his first time effort flew
wide. Ainsdale almost caught Formby on the break as they raced away
down the right but as the cross came in Adam Cullen was there to
cover. Then on 12 minutes Formby got the breakthrough. Shaun
Jackson-Guy found Joe Sudlow out on the left he found Matty Lloyd
who turned his man inside out before firing in a shot which the
keeper found too powerful to hold onto and the ball crossed the line
to put Formby 1-0 ahead. Matty Lloyd was now right on top of
his game after scoring his first goal of the season and his link up
play with Patrick Travers was great to watch. Max Robinson
then set up Matty Lloyd who's left foot shot was tipped around the
post superbly by the Ainsdale keeper.
After the break Ainsdale's goalkeeper was once again called into the
action as Ben Hitchmough found Max Robinson who slipped the ball
towards Matty Lloyd who flicked the ball up and volleyed goalwards
all in one movement but his shot was well held by the keeper.
Ainsdale began to pressure the Formby back line as the game entered
the final few minutes but Joey Pierce was superb at the back to stop
the visitors in their tracks.
Man of the match today was Patrick Travers who was superb in
midfield and he is improving all the time and ensured that Formby FC
Juniors kept their 1st clean sheet of the season.

Birkdale United 7-0 Hesketh Colts Red
Cold, wet and windy,
a horrible afternoon for football but a good performance by Birkdale
made light of the conditions. Birkdale’s 1st goal came after
just 1 minute with a great shot from the edge of the penalty area by
Luke Williams. More pressure from Birkdale saw Sam Howard and
Dominic Platts both have good chances to extend the lead before Liam
Jackson ran on to a through ball and slid the ball past the Hesketh
keeper after 6 minutes. Hesketh had their 1st chance of the
game after 15 minutes but Nick Knight made a good save to preserve
the lead. Birkdale continued to enjoy the majority of
possession and Liam Jackson, Liam Aindow and Dominic Platts all had
chances to extend the lead. The sustained pressure finally told with
the 3rd goal coming from a cross on the right hand side which was
put into the net by a diving header from Max Regan.
After the break, Liam Jackson grabbed his 2nd goal of the game
running on to a through ball and lobbing it over the Hesketh keeper.
The 5th goal came when Liam Aindow ran on to a through ball and slid
the ball past the Hesketh keeper. A couple of minutes later Liam
Aindow grabbed his 2nd goal of the game.
The final goal of the
game came in the last minute with Brodie Pike latching on to a
through ball to slide the ball past the keeper.
An excellent performance from the whole Birkdale team, managing to
play some good football despite the difficult conditions. Connor
Fitzgerald continued his good form and was awarded Man of the Match.

Town Green 2-3 Forefield Rangers
A good game of
tactical football which could of gone either way although a draw
would have been a deserved result for both teams.
Forefield's 1st goal came from a ball put high into the area and a
mix up in defence and the goalkeeper gave the attacker the edge to
head into the goal. Just before half time a back pass from
Forefield was intercepted by Alex Mullin to round the keeper and
equalise.
In the 2nd half a ball played through the middle allowed Forefield
to run on and score again. Within minutes Town Green where
level again as a ball was played to Henry Brown on the edge of the
box who struck it sweetly over the keeper. Almost at full time
when it looked to finish a draw, a ball was cleared from Forefields
area to a player to run on and score the winner.
Formby JSC B 1-1
Billinge Juniors
This game was not for
the purist as a short pitch and bouncy surface contributed to a game
of few chances for either team. The only memorable chance of
the 1st half ended with a shot from the edge of the area from Formby
through a melee of players to enable Formby to go 1-0 up.
In truth
Formby shaded the 1st half and deserved to be 1-0 up.
The 2nd half was an entirely different affair and it had to be, with
Fletch coming on for Barron, who had little room to work with in the
first half and Bradshaw dropping back into midfield, a better shape
resulted and Billinge had 60-70% of the ball away from home.
Chance after chance was created and it was finally Fredders, after
great work from Chisnall on the right, who dived in with a great
header with 4 minutes to go to level the scores.
There
was only one team in it now with Billinge pressing for the winner
and despite 2 shots straight at the keeper and finally 3 goal mouth
scrambles in a minute, both sides had to be content with a point.
