Southport District Cub Scouts Swimming Garla 2008
THE Southport
District Cub Scouts held their 2008 Swimming Gala on Saturday, 29
November at Dunes in Southport. This gala event was attended by over
100 children aged 8 to 10 years of age from all over the Southport
area. Swimming to overall victory where the 14th Cubs, who have now
won the Trophy and Cup for the second year running. The Trophy was
presented for the overall Gala and the Cup is for the winners of the
Team Race.
The over all results are as follows:-
1st Place - 14th Southport (St. James) Cubs
2nd Place - 55th Southport Cubs and
3rd Place - 62nd Southport Cubs.

BIG NAME STORES' FUTURES UNCERTAIN...
THE latest blow to the region as
the world's cash crisis grows is Woolworth's. Also following the
announcement that Woolworth's is going into administration was MFI.
This sudden news has shocked many who see both stores as well
established especially Woolworth's. A spokesperson for Woolworth's
administrators, Deloitte, told the media that:- "Strenuous
efforts over recent weeks to keep these companies going have
unfortunately failed and the businesses are now looking to be
rescued under the administration process. Stores will remain open
past Christmas and employees in stores will be paid." MFI
has also announced that it will only keep its 26 stores, including
its Southport, Kew branch, open until all remaining display stock is
