Dickensian Day 2008
FORMBY was
again in a time warp as Dickensian fun and games overtook the
streets of Formby Village. Also mixed in were other attractions,
like fairground rides and even a steam train! Street entertainment
included Punch & Judy shows, JJ the Clown, a fire eater, Southport
Swords. On the musical side, Marsh Side Brass Band entertained
shoppers as did Formby Brass Band, the Red Rose Brass Band and then
the Bootle and District Concertina Band. On one section of the road,
the Maghull Hand Bell Ringers played and other parts of the village
enjoyed acts like the Lyric Singers, the Birkdale Orpheus Society
and the Crosby Gilbert & Sullivan Society. Dancing came in the form
of Argameols Clog Dancers and the Ann Roberts Morris Dancers. In the
afternoon, the Grand Parade moved its way down Chapel Lane... This
was a fantastic event that put every one in a festive mood and
wanting more... Luckily, in Formby, more is to come on Saturday, 13
December 2008, when the village will again have a major event on.
This time, an outdoor nativity play will be performed on Chapel
Lane! Congratulations, once again, to all who organised and tookpart
in this event. Special thanks must go to Dickensian Chairman and
Formby Times editor, Hazel Shaw, who told us:- "This is a fun
event that I love to see in the village each year. It brings a
strong festive atmosphere to the community and to the village, not
forgetting raising lots of cash for charities along the way. I would
like to thank all the businesses who took part this year and to all
my volunteers who helped plan and run this event."
