Hello Liverpool and
nearby towns, borough councils and unitary authorities...
FORGET the idea of Merseyside and
go back to our roots this Christmas as the 'The Lancashire
Hotpots' are coming to 'Liverpool Carling Academy'
on Saturday, 13 December 2008. Yes, it's going to be the usual fun
packed evening celebrating everything North West. There aren’t many
bands who can have their videos played on MTV2 and also have real
ales named after them but there also aren’t many bands like The
Lancashire Hotpots. With 750,000 Myspace plays currently to their
credit, their first album Never Mind The Hotpots with its comedic
folk observations on 21st Century life reached No 2 in the BBC 6
Music Album charts with national support from Radio 1 (Colin Murray,
Rob Da Bank), Radio 2 (Chris Evans, Arthur Smith) and 6Music (Steve
Lamacq). The Hotpots now unveil their new oeuvre ‘Pot Sounds’ with a
bigger sound and further comic insights into topics such as climate
change (Don’t Make The Polar Bears Cry), Saturday afternoon shopping
(I Fear Ikea), illegal file sharing and how ultimately binge
drinking Britain can ensure sporting success in 2012 (The Beer
Olympics). In the 18 months since their first live appearance they
have become one of the biggest live bands in the North West
climaxing in April 2008 with a 1,200 sellout at the 53 Degrees venue
in Preston. Their current Pot Sounds tour also takes in twenty dates
supporting ardent fan Paddy McGuinness on his ‘Paddy
McGuinness and You’ national tour. So Dismiss the Hotpots at
your peril! The evening also features support from comedian
'Ivan Brackenbury' and his 'North Derbyshire Hospital
Radio Roadshow'.

Nell
McAndrew supports NSPCC’s Letter from Santa appeal to light up a
child’s Christmas
NELL McAndrew is calling on local
people to bring the magic of Christmas into their homes this year by
supporting the NSPCC’s Letter from Santa fundraising appeal,
sponsored by Hotpoint.
People in the region are being encouraged to get their orders in
now– last orders must be with Santa no later than 16 December.
Parents, grandparents, families and carers can support the
children’s charity and make a child’s Christmas very special by
arranging for a personalised letter from Santa to be delivered to
their front door. New this year, you can also order a special Baby's
First Christmas letter from Santa, the perfect memento for
babies celebrating their first Christmas. Order a letter now and
help raise vital funds for the NSPCC.
Nell McAndrew, said:- “The NSPCC’s Letter from Santa campaign
is a brilliant way to add an extra sparkle to a child’s Christmas.
For a minimum donation of just £5, they will receive a special
personalised letter, flown all the way from Santa’s grotto in
Lapland by his trusted reindeer.”
To receive a letter from Santa for a child you know, you can order
online now or call
0870 325 9012. Alternatively look out for a Letter from Santa order
postcard in your local Debenhams or SPAR store or at your local
ODEON cinema.
It is important to remember that Christmas is not a time of
celebration for every child. Over the 12 days of festive cheer last
year, ChildLine – a service provided by the NSPCC - counselled 4,928
children who were in danger or distress and had nowhere else to
turn. By supporting this appeal you will be helping to provide
support, advice and protection for these children who are in
desperate need of help.
LIVERPOOL TEAMS SCORE £4,226 FOR
PROSTATE CANCER CHARITY
LIVERPOOL football teams were
among those from across the North West which have helped raise more
than £4,226 for the Prostate Cancer charity, after battling it out
in Rok’s 5-a-side Real Man Charity Cup.
Players from building firm Rok were joined by teams from businesses
across the North West to compete in the regional tournament, with
the winning team then going forward to play in the national final
held in London.
Prostate cancer is responsible for the deaths of 10,000 men in the
UK each year.
Most men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer are over the age of
50 and men are more likely to get the disease if their father,
brother or a close male relative has been diagnosed. The risk is
also higher in African or African Caribbean men.
Early diagnosis can improve a man’s chances of finding a successful
treatment, yet 90 per cent of adults in the UK do not know what the
prostate gland does or where it is in the body.
The Prostate Cancer Charity is fighting to raise awareness of the
disease through research, support information and campaigning.
Overall the national Rok Real Man Cup has raised more than £40,000
for the charity and helped raised awareness among the
local community for the disease, its diagnosis and treatment.
Wayne Booth, Rok Liverpool’s area leader, said:- “As an
employer with a high percentage of male employees we strongly
support the Prostate Cancer Charity and the work it does to raise
awareness of the disease.
The charity football match was a great way for teams to work
together and take part in a fun event, while raising valuable funds
for the charity.”
Garvis Snook, Chief Executive of Rok, is an ambassador of The
Prostate Cancer Charity. |
