Non-executive director wanted - your chance to influence health
decisions
LIVERPOOL MOJO
showcased the very best in cocktail concoctions as it hosted the
Northern ‘World Class’ Gin Finals on 14 January 2009,
delighting customers with an exceptional master class in cocktail
making.
As the five talented finalists battled
it out cocktail shaker for shaker throughout the day, judges
including TV Mixologist Andy Pearson (Something For The Weekend) had
the tricky task of whittling down the hopefuls to just two who would
compete head-to-head in a nail-biting climax.
Finally the judges announced that Jon
Hepplestone, 23, from Leeds (Trio bar) and Sam Carter, 30, from
Nottingham (World Service Restaurant) would be the two finalists
battling it out for the prestigious prizes on offer including a trip
to New York and the chance to compete in the prestigious World Class
UK Final judged by the likes of Bill Prince, Deputy Editor of GQ;
Tom Innes, Editor, Theme and Barrie Wilson from Diageo Reserve
Brands.
Both competitors upped their game for the final show-down and pulled
out all the stops to produce a unique, innovative and delicious
cocktail, each wanting to impress the judges with their creative
flair and charisma.
After much deliberation the judges came to the unanimous decision
that Sam Carter was the well-deserved winner with his strangely
named but wonderfully distinct ‘Violent Granny’ cocktail.
Bar Manager Sam was:- “Absolutely elated to have won. I like
to push the boundaries of mixology and I believe the mix of
Tanqueray Gin and Granny Smith Apples showed the judges my
diversity.”
The winner from each of the four categories in the Northern finals
will now go on to take part in the UK final and ultimately, for the
UK winner, secure a place in the prestigious global final which will
see them compete against the best bartenders from around the world.

BBC Culture Show - Liverpool '08 special!
DID you see
the BBC Culture Show on BBC2 on Monday, 19 January 2009? The program
ran a 1 hour long special, reviewing Liverpool's year as European
Capital of Culture 2008. The program was an interesting mix of
events, but sadly it missed a lot of events that happened through
our the year. But it did in our view do a fantastic job of keeping
Liverpool in the spotlight and for all the correct reasons. The
programmed fetured highlights from the year including Sir Simon
Rattle on his return to his home city with the Berliner
Philharmoniker, Sir Paul McCartney's homecoming concert at Anfield
and actor Pete Postlethwaite and director Rupert Goold on their
controversial King Lear at the Everyman Theatre. if you missed it,
the program will be online via BBC I-Player for until the 26 January
2009. So you will be able to catch up on it. Let us know what you
think of the program by emailing us to:-

We are finishing our special 2008 section on Mersey Reporter and it
will be live very soon, so keep an eye out for it! |
