Class of 1988
REMEMBER the
days of Slade with their song 'Paradise' and Bobby
McFerrin with 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' not forgetting
Guns N Roses putting not one hit out, but two in one year!
Also the sound from the analogue vinyl LP of U2's 'In God's
Country' playing in rooms across the UK. And buzzing
around the airwaves, 'Tell That Girl to Shut Up' by
Transvision Vamp. In sports, Ben Johnson losing his Olympic
gold in Seoul after a positive drugs test... Wimbledon beating
Liverpool in the cup final. Not forgetting, in international
news, George Bush becoming President of the USA... British
Pubs introducing all day opening to the delight of drinkers
everywhere... In no way linked to the success of the Red Dwarf
series. The sad news of the Lockerbie air disaster that killed
281 after a terrorist attack. On the box was 'Red Dwarf',
'Chelmsford 123', not forgetting the first series of
'London's Burning'. Also on TV was 'Miami
Vice', with its classy team tune... 'Neighbours',
back in the days when it was actually some good. On the big
screen.... the Best Film, Oscar winner 'Rain Man',
'Beetlejuice' and 'Scrooge'... and
of course, the very first 'Die Hard'... Yep,
they were the days. For some, looking back 20 years now, it
was more of an amazing year. It marked their birth as adults
as they left school. On Saturday, 7 February 2009, Christine
Carter decided to see what her Meols Cop High School, Southport
classmates were now doing and invited the classes of 1988/1989 to a
reunion. The night at Leo's bar, on Neville Street in
Southport was a huge success with many fellow classmates attending
to catch up on gossip and to relive old memories. We popped
over to take a look and a few shots. If you could not attend
and still want to get in contact with fellow class mates, then
please do email our radio studio at
news24@liverpoolreporter.com and we will forward your
information on to Christine.
If you are holding a
reunion, please let us know and we will try and help you find your
class mates... |
