Gerrard denies affray charge
IN the spotlight
again was Liverpool FC captain and father of two, Steven Gerrard who
has now appeared at Liverpool Crown
Court. The 28 year old football star has denied any involvement in a
fight in a Merseyside nightclub and pleaded not guilty to affray.
This is the latest part of the ongoing story that started in the
early hours of 29 December 2008 at the Lounge Inn, Southport. Steven
Gerrard and six other men are accused of being part of a group that
injured a 34 year old businessman Marcus McGee.
The other men who
face the same charge include Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Ian
Dunbavin, 28, of Guildford Road, Southport, and midfielder Robert
Grant, 18, of Enstone Avenue, Litherland.
Also John McGrattan, 33, of Rimmer Avenue; Paul McGrattan, 31, of
Linden Drive; John Doran, 29, of Woodlands Road, and Ian Smith, 19,
of Hilary Avenue, all Huyton where in the dock.
When Steven Gerrard was asked how he pleaded, he told the court:-
"Not guilty." The other six men also entered the same
plea.
Liverpool Crown Court has given bail with conditions not to contact
witnesses nor to enter the Lounge Inn unless with a legal
representative to all 7.
The Recorder of Liverpool, Henry Globe QC, has now adjourned the
trial until 20 July 2009.
