THE
Southport's annual Food and Drink festival kicked off at 7.30 on the
evening of Wednesday, 13 May 2009, to start the ball rolling and was
well attended as expected. The ladies (all of whom are students
studying on their foundation degree course) who were strutting their
stuff and creations on the catwalk the next day say at the Southport
College's Design and Fashion Show outside the Arts Centre, were also
mingling with the crowd to add a hint of glamour and elegance to the
evening.
The Pimms tent was
the first port of call for many (well it was the 1st stand -
honest), and it's popularity showed as it ran dry well before any
other stall started running low on victuals. Many of Southport's top
names were present showing off their ranges, of particular note were
the Cloisters restaurant (Scarisbrick) who had set up a carvery
(they brought 3 huge joints of roast beef with them that lasted a
mere 40 minutes due to the quality) and the Latin Lounge whose
Chilli, cocktails and chilled savoury nibbles seemed to be the talk
of many. At about 9.30pm everybody was homeward bound well sated and
feeling full of the joys of Southport's finest.
The quality of the
food presented really showed the diversity and excellence that
Southport has to offer any diner, whether resident or visitor with
ranges available from contemporary and classics, to spicy and wild
to sedate and modest, Southport truly is a venue to suit all.
The rest of the week
went very well and brought lots of people into Southport. We will
let the photos taken by me and the editor Patrick tell you the rest
of the story.
Bon Apettit.
