Specials Confirmed To Open Liverpool Music Week 2009

Liverpool, have told us that:- "We are pleased to announce The
Specials for Liverpool Music Week 2009. This iconic band are
returning to the stage for one final time in celebration of their
30th Anniversary. This event will not only be the opening event for
Liverpool Music Week 2009 and held at the stunning Liverpool Olympia
Theatre, but will also be the first date on the tour for this
legendary Ska outfit.
The Specials which formed in Coventry in 1977 were renowned for
their strong anti-racism political views and trademark two-tone suit
fashions, they achieved huge chart success with tracks like ‘Ghost
Town’ and ‘Two Much Too Young’ and have gone on to become one of the
UK’s most influential bands. The Specials perform at Liverpool
Olympia on Thursday, 29 October 2009, tickets on sale 9am Friday, 24
July 2009.
We are also pleased to announce The Gallows, this ferociously real
punk rock band have had an incredible year, with their critically
acclaimed second album ‘Grey Britain’ storming into the top 20,
followed by a sold out tour of the UK. The band are currently
tearing across American on the Warped tour. The Gallows perform at
Academy 2 on Saturday, 28 November 2009."
Liverpool Music Week Director James Barton comments:- “We’re

opening this years Liverpool Music Week at the iconic Olympia
Theatre, and that they’ve also chosen Liverpool to kick off their

‘The Gallows’ confirmed, Liverpool Music Week 2009 is shaping up to

Other acts to have already been announced for Liverpool Music Week
are Kasabian, Reverend And The Makers, The Enemy.
Liverpool Music Week is the UK’s biggest indoor winter music
festival, hosting over 80 events across 20 city centre venues and
featuring over 300 live acts. The festival which is now in its 7th
Year brings together some of the UK’s hottest acts and offers fresh
and emerging talent a platform to perform.

SOUTHPORT PARAPLEGIC SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB TO RECEIVE NEW SPORTS

SOUTHPORT
Paraplegic Sports and Social Club have be presented with three new
sports wheelchairs by Edward Greenhalgh of The Lord’s Taverners
North West Region on Wednesday, 22 July 2009, at The North West
Spinal Injuries Unit, Southport Hospital.
The Lord’s Taverners, the youth sports charity which will donate
nearly £2.5 million this year to help give young people a sporting
chance, worked closely with wheelchair manufacturers RGK to develop
a high-quality sports wheelchair (RRP £1,700) that is suitable for
all aspiring athletes.
The Lord’s Taverners Sports Wheelchair Sponsorship Scheme is
endorsed by the British Wheelchair Sports Foundation and Dame
Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE, who is Patron of the scheme. Since
introducing the scheme in 2002 The Lord’s Taverners has provided
over 500 sports wheelchairs to youngsters across the UK.
Matthew Patten, Chief Executive of The Lord’s Taverners, said:-
“We believe that sport and recreation are essential for all young
people. These sports wheelchairs will enable even more youngsters to
enjoy sport and recreation opportunities. We are proud to support
the Southport Paraplegic Sports and Social Club.”
FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC COLLISION - SOUTHPORT
MERSEYSIDE
Police are now appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic
collision on Thursday, 16 July 2009, at the junction of Mill Lane
and Roe Lane in Southport.
At around 10.40am an elderly pedestrian was crossing the road when
she was in collision with a black Peugeot 207. The driver stopped at
the scene.
The 77 year old local woman was taken to hospital with serious
injuries and died on Tuesday, 21 July 2009.
