MERSEYSIDE
Police have issued an appeal this week for witnesses following a
robbery at a jewellers in Southport on Tuesday, 18 August 2009.
Officers were called to Collingwood Gold jewellers in Tulketh Street
at around 1pm following reports that three men had entered the shop
and stolen jewellery from displays in the window.
One man stood in the doorway of the shop while two others used a
hammer to smash the glass of the display cases and remove boxes of
jewellery.
All three left the
scene in a light blue or grey BMW 3-Series saloon, which was parked
in a disabled bay outside the shop and was being driven by a fourth
person. The car drove off in the direction of Eastbank Street and
had a distinctive personalised number plate which read YHP8.
The car was recovered
a short time later in Arbour Street at the junction with Sefton
Street. It had earlier been seen in Gordon Street and Gordon Avenue
in the town centre.
All four men had their faces concealed and were wearing
dark-coloured hooded tops.
No-one was injured during the incident but two female staff members
and a customer, who was inside the store at the time, were left
shaken.
The shop was sealed off for forensic examination and detectives have
obtained CCTV footage taken from the scene.
Detective Sergeant Neil Blanchard of Sefton CID, said:- "This
was a nasty attack on a local business, although thankfully no-one
was hurt. We are determined to catch those responsible and are
particularly keen to speak to anyone who recognises the person in
this picture. We believe this is the fourth person involved in the
robbery who was at the wheel of the BMW as they fled the scene and I
would urge anyone who recognises them or has any other information
about this incident to come forward."
