Jaguars 12 Southport Black 4
After a disappointing friendly result earlier in the week the Jags
started with their opening game of the season against Southport
Black. Weather conditions were not great with grey wet skies and
light blustery winds but this did not deter Jags from an excellent
and much improved all round team performance. Jags always looked
dangerous with the pace of Josh H, Ryan and Dan causing all sorts of
problems for the Southport defence. This was backed up with some
excellent midfield play from Josh A, Kieran and an excellent
captain’s performance from Tyler.
The Jags got off to a flying start with some wonderful linking up
and passing which was great to see, this led to the Jags scoring
very early on in the game which settled the nerves and led to a
hatrick for Dan in the first ten minutes, this was followed by goals
from Josh A, Ryan and Tyler. Southport did pull one back before half
time.
The 2nd half started with the Jags making a couple of changes at
half time which meant 1 or 2 players had to play in unfamiliar
places but this did not deter from a great all round team
performance. Southport kept battling away and never gave up and got
some deserved goals but unfortunately for them whenever they scored
the Jags attacked the other end and always kept well in front with
further goals from Dan, Josh H and Ryan. Well done to Southport for
never giving up and always trying but they caught the Jags on a good
day and they thoroughly deserved to win.
The full time score being 12-4 with Dan being man of the match not
just for his goals but also for his contribution as well as he is
getting better all the time.
Thanks to all the parents from both teams the game was played in a
great spirit and was well refereed.

Southport FC juniors got the new season off to a bad start, with
several players signed up from the Liverpool area, failing to arrive
for the match with Formby JSC B and having to play Tom Mawdsley in
goal, a position he had never played before. By half-way through the
1st half he had already showed he was more than capable of playing
in that position, pulling off some good saves. Then came a well
worked goal, for SFCJ, that was finished off by Luke Timmis. At 2 to 1
the game could have gone either way and it remained that way to
half-time.
Unfortunately when
the 2nd half kicked-off Formby were quick off the mark and soon went
further ahead and has hard as Southport tried they were unable to
pull a goal back. Formby continued to attack and got their just
deserts with a number of goals coming. Still Southport battled on
and despite being 8 to 1 down played on to the end with 2 more
consolation goals coming from Mark Elwood and Malik Zbaeda. Full
credit to Formby for a superb performance and also to SFCJ players
for never giving up.
As well as Tom played
in goal he would rather play out and if there are any non-registered
(in the Craven league) ‘keepers, contact Richard Bassey on:- 07740
064261 or attend training at Meols Cop on a 7 Wednesday 2009 until
8.30pm.

Billinge 5
The 1st game of the season, on paper at least, looked as though it
would be a tight low scoring game on a small pitch on a very windy
day. That's not the way it panned out, as early season rustiness
with new personnel and a lack of communication within the back 5,
caused Billinge to make a couple of untypical errors to allow Formby
back into the game at half time.
The 1st half was shaded by Billinge having a little more of the ball
and they got off to a flyer after new signing Peete, whose pace and
aggression caused Formby trouble all through the game, was upended
in the box for Bradshaw to dispatch the resultant penalty with
aplomb. |
It was 2-0 7 minutes
later as Peete rounded off an excellent passing move to make it 2-0.
Then an innocuous free kick, which was hit into the box eluding
defenders, forwards and keeper, ended up in the bottom left hand
corner of the net for 2-1. Billinge then allowed a decent ball into
the box to sit up unchallenged and the as Anthony came to gather the
Formby forward nipped in to make it 2 to 2 at half time.
The 2nd half was mostly Billinge as they scored from 3 headers from
corners/free kicks the first from a semi fit Fredders on at half
time, from a Peete corner and then from 2 superb Bradshaw deliveries
Deano and Owen wrapped up the game. This after Billinge made 4
substitutions at half time to change the shape of the game and a
change the formation with 10 minutes to go.
Add to that the woodwork being struck by Peete and shots just over
the bar from Jacko in the 1st half this was a deserved win away
against last season’s runners up. It was though, a much closer win
than the scoreline suggests and Formby battled the whole game to
deny Billinge space and could have had a 3rd goal themselves with
the score at 3-2 to Billinge midway through the 2nd half.
Mentions must go to Jones whose communication stood out from a very
quiet performance and Saxon who dealt with threats from the left in
a composed fashion. Connolly was excellent screening the back 4 and
although Bradshaw was not his usual dominant self he had a great
deal of influence on the game in the later stages.
Scorers Peete (1) 38, Bradshaw Penalty (32), Frederick (1) 50,
Anderson (1) 64, Owen (1) 76

Ainsdale 6 West Lancs Colts 3
It was a good start to the season for Ainsdale, despite only having
11 players available. Lee Tierney scored 1st for Ainsdale within
minutes of the KO, closely followed by 2 goals from Kyle Deary so
Ainsdale were 3 to the good by 15 minutes. Deary finished off his
hatrick then Tierney managed his 2nd from a ball up the field by
Deary. Before the end of the 1st half Colts managed to get 2 back
leaving the half time score 5-2.
Some good performances on their debuts for Ainsdale by Danny
Callaghan, Aaron Lovelady, Ben Sawyer, Zac Velesco and Tom Bolton,
which helped Ainsdale take control of the second half with Captain
Jamie Segar leading by example. Tierney scored once more, a penalty
after being brought down in the box, which led to Ainsdale's 6th and
final goal. Colts managed another, which came shortly before the
full time whistle. Final score 6-3
A good performance all round, but Ainsdale's MOM accolade belongs to
Paul Simms who worked tirelessly throughout the match.
