Arriva North West shortlisted for 2009 UK Bus Awards
THE bus
company has been selected for the Innovation Award, out of 210
entries, for its fuel-saving technology system – EcoManager.
EcoManager is a technological innovation that saves money and
reduces exhaust and CO2 emissions. The technology provides drivers
with real time feedback enabling them to adjust their driving
techniques to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, enabling
Arriva North West to reduce the impact of their services on the
environment.
Debra Mercer, marketing and communications manager for Arriva North
West, said:- “Arriva North West led the way with the
development of the EcoManager system which has been shortlisted for
the Innovation Award. It is not, however, simply down to the system,
but also to our dedicated team of drivers. Without such a committed
workforce, EcoManager would not be able to fulfil its full
potential.”
Arriva North West was the test-bed for the development of the
EcoManager system with initial trials beginning at the Runcorn
depot, in Cheshire, in 2007. While the EcoManager innovation seems
simple, for it to fulfil its full potential the whole workforce, and
drivers in particular, must engage with the trial.
Debra added:- “EcoManager represents a significant opportunity
for Arriva North West to support the long term sustainability of
Arriva’s UK bus business, by reducing fuel use, maximising
efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of our operations
through lower exhaust emissions. It’s vitally important to conserve
fuel as much as possible so we can deliver value-for-money local
services and for the environmental benefits it brings. The system
developed here in the North West is now being rolled out across
Arriva’s bus fleet right across the UK.”
Arriva North West will now attend an awards presentation and
ceremony at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane in London, on Thursday, 12
November 2009, to find out whether they are the winners of the
Innovation Award. |
