Ainsdale 7 Southport Black 1
Ainsdale’s Thomas Cunliffe opened the scoring on 4 minutes with Joe
Howard adding a 2nd on 11 minutes.
Conor Bligh scored 4 goals, his best beating the Southport keeper
from 30yds out.
The biggest cheer of the day was for Ainsdale’s Ryan James whose
goal came seconds after coming on as a 2nd half sub.
Southport scored a late consolation goal and also brought out a
great double save from Ainsdale keeper Ethan Stroud.

Jaguars Red 2 Southport FC Yellow 6
Perfect conditions today for the match between Jags and Southport
but unfortunately for the Jags they got off to a poor start with a
costly mistake leading to Southport opening the scoring early on in
the game.
A few minutes later Jags failed to deal with a cross into the box,
which led to Southport taking an early 2-0 lead.
This finally woke up the Jags and they came back into the game with
a good free kick from Tyler R, which was saved by the keeper but for
Josh H to head in the rebound.
Kyle D was excellent at the back, winning many tackles with good
backup from Joe B and Cam C. Up front the pace of the Jags started
to cause Southport problems. Kieran S was excellent out wide and the
Jags started to get on top and finished the half the stronger being
unlucky to go in at half time 2-1.
As the 2nd half started, Southport upped their game and scored a 3rd
goal. This was followed by a 4th before Jags pulled another one back
by Ryan C to make the score 4-2.
Jags failed to keep up the pressure and Southport scored 2 further
goals to make it a rather harsh 6-2 final score.
MOM for Jags was Kyle D who was again solid in his tackles and
showed 100% commitment. Thanks to all at Southport as the game was
played in a very good spirit.

Forefield 0 Billinge 2
With 3 penalties, 2 to Billinge, a clearly onside goal disallowed,
after the ball was played off a defender then a clearance off the
line from Billinge this was a game with more than its share of
controversy.
Eventually it went, quite deservedly, to Billinge as they outplayed,
outmuscled and out-competed Forefield to maintain their unbeaten
run.
It was, however, a tetchy affair with Billinge maintaining their
concentration to focus on the job in hand.
The game started brightly with Fredders rampaging forward only to be
blocked off the ball in the penalty area and then regain it for the
home keeper to come charging out taking one of his legs from under
him but to his credit he played on and no penalty was awarded as he
tried to squeeze a shot in.
Billinge then weathered the early storm by Forefield and were lucky
to not be 1-0 down when Forefield hit the bar on 5 minutes; 5
minutes later Forefield had a header just wide.
After that Billinge took control and started to press and a Bradshaw
drive was tipped over after 12 minutes then an excellent corner from
Peate saw a Barron header saved by the Forefield keeper. Peate
himself was then played in 5 minutes later by Fredders but he could
not direct his shot inside the far post from a tight angle.
2 minutes later the referee took the opportunity to award a penalty
to Billinge for a handball and Bradshaw smashed the ball home to the
left of the keeper to make it 1-0 to Billinge. To this point the
game was a keenly contested affair with little to choose between the
2 teams territorially. After this Billinge began to take the game by
the scruff of the neck with Forefield managing one shot after 37
minutes well wide of the Billinge goal whilst claiming for a corner
as the ball shanked of the strikers leg.
The 2nd half saw 4 changes for Billinge with Chisnall, Hook, Saxon
and Jones coming on. Jones almost had an immediate impact with a
superbly flighted cross to Bradshaw whose header was well saved by
the home keeper. Fredders then went close 5 minutes later.
Forefield's slim hopes of salvaging something were restored with a
penalty after a shot driven in hit a Billinge elbow. Anthony saved
well from an excellent penalty to keep Billinge in it, deservedly,
at that point.
Anderson then came on after 60 minutes and battled well. The game
then began to frustrate Forefield’s players who knew that they were
up against a difficult team and it was no surprise that Billinge got
a 2nd penalty their play deserved on 62 minutes and Bradshaw again
slotted the ball home. At 2-0 down Forefield's heads went down.
There was still time for an effort from Forefield to be easily saved
by Anthony before full time. Billinge stay top and put
daylight behind them and 2nd place.
Mentions go to Saxon who stood strong, Fredders who worried the
Forefield back four all day and Bradshaw who ran the midfield.
MOM - Anthony for his penalty save. |
