Latin Lounge Closed
WE have always been
very supportive of the Latin Lounge. Not only because they were our
next door neighbours on Post Office Ave, but also for the fact the
staff and also the regulars were always friendly, and the venue,
clean, relaxed and well run. Carol Birrell and her staff have also
been very active in the community, not only through putting on
charity events, but also by supporting charities in the background
which has gained them a lot of respect. The bar has run many highly
successful events and were one of the few venues this year, having
opened its doors to the Jazz Festival; so it came as a shock to see
them closing their doors, with no plans to return. This is just one
of many small businesses being forced to close in Southport. The
Council, and banks must start to take note, or we will end up like
Morecombe Bay or Lytham St Annes. This came out of the blue to all
and we wish Carol and her staff, all the best. Let's hope the venue
does not go to waste for too long, like so many other vacant
properties in our town. Carol said:- "The last
night was well attuned, with both floors full and all the customers
seemed to have fun. I am glad we closed on a night like that. I would like to
thank all our regulars and staff who have supported us over the last
few years. We will miss you all!"
These are a few example links to see some of their highlights

CHRIS GRAYLING SPEECH – UNISON RESPONSE
COMMENTING on
Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Grayling’s speech to the Tory Party
Conference, Dave Prentis, UNISON General Secretary, said:-
“Chris Grayling was heavy on the promises, but light on the details. And his plans to put tight limits on immigration set warning bells
ringing in the public sector. Without the work of overseas staff our
hospitals and social care services would crumble.
Our population is
ageing, so we will need more migrant workers to keep services
running, not less. If Chris Grayling got his way, a serious skills
shortage could leave elderly and vulnerable people without the care
they need.”
