Formby FC Blue 3 Ainsdale Juniors 1
Formby’s number 9 opened the scoring on 11 minutes. Ainsdale
replied a minute later with Ryan James putting Conor Bligh through
who cleverly rounded the keeper to equalise. Ainsdale’s
Antonio Berisha was a rock in defence, his 1st half performance was
outstanding. However just before the break Formby regained the lead.
The 2nd half saw Formby dominate with substitute Peter Fletcher
tormenting the Ainsdale defence. Amazing saves from Ainsdale keeper
Ethan Stroud kept Formby out until the 31st minute when number 7
added a 3rd. Ainsdale, on the break, had their chances to cut
the deficit but Formby Blue held out for a deserved victory.
Birkdale S 3 Southport Black 0
A fantastic display from Birkdale S against a good Southport Yellow
side who came to defend in numbers and force Birkdale to break them
down.
The break through came from O’Neil who took a huge throw from the
corner flag. Although the Southport keeper saved the throw he
unfortunately dropped it into his goal for 1-0.
From the kick off Birkdale had attack after attack with Casterton
Flatts and O’Neil in midfield running the game and Welford up top
causing the Southport defence all sorts of problems.
The 2nd goal
came after a great pass from Casterton to Welford on the edge of the
box he went towards goal and despite everyone shouting for the pass,
Welford easily spun around the 2 defenders and cooly slotted the
ball into the goal.
The 2nd half again was all Birkdale with Southport never really
troubling the defence of Huyton and Saywer. With 5 minutes
left Birkdale’s 3rd and Welford’s 11th of the season came from
another O’Neil throw to Casterton who flicked the ball backwards and
Welford headed the ball into the top corner.
Ormskirk FC B 1 Tarleton Corinthians 3
A good game that saw Tarleton Blues make the early running. Good
defensive work from Ormskirk, particularly the keeper, kept the
Blues at bay. A good corner from Batey was met by Marshall who
just cleared the bar of the Ormskirk goal.
The game evened out with Price and Cropper commanding in Tarleton’s
defence and Millward was unlucky with a snap shot from distance to
leave the scorer untroubled at half time.
The 2nd half saw the Blues continue to press. Unfortunately an error
in the Tarleton defence allowed Ormskirk to score an easy goal and
take the lead. Tarleton then upped a gear and worked a fine
passing move between Batey, Jones and Marshall that ended with
Millward scoring an equaliser.
Ormskirk were awarded a penalty that Nuttall bravely saved to keep
the Blues in the game. Spurred on, Millward broke free down the
right wing and delivered a great cross that was met by Marshall, who
dived full length to power a great header into the Ormskirk goal.
Ormskirk pressed hard in search of an equaliser but a good clearance
to Millward saw the tricky winger hit a 20m half volley that beat
the Ormskirk keeper to win the game for Tarleton. |
