Brenda Porter Gets Support From The Shadow Home Secretary

CHRIS Grayling, who is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Epsom and Ewell , and the Shadow Home Secretary, was in Southport to lend support to Cllr. Brenda Porter, who is due to stand in next year's General Election in Southport. Chris said:- "Very optimistic she will do well. She has a very good chance. She is a strong local candidate, who is very well known in the local community." Chris was also in the town to talk about the Southport's nightlife after a run of bad press for the resort.

Off our audio interview he told us that:- "It is very hard for businesses to grow in this current economic climate. The nightlife community is often over-looked, but it provides a very important part of the resort's character and attraction, for tourist and also for locals. We must support businesses of all types, small and large, but we must also tackle the growing drink problems that are associated with the night time industry. It will be a hard and long process, but it must be done, so that businesses, like your town's many fantastic pubs and clubs, can flourish without the bad news baggage attached in recent years.  Locally, Brenda has many ideas and is highly committed to this, just as we all are nationally in the Conservative Party."
