Liverpool's Santa Dash 2009 is a huge Success
OVER 7,000
off-duty Father Christmases took part in what was a fantastic
charity event in Liverpool on Sunday, 6 December 2009. Fingers
crossed it should make the World Record, which we narrowly missed in
2008, so watch this space. The day was cold and rain zoomed down as
the race began; yet the atmosphere was far more warm and jolly... As
the race set off, the applause from the watching crowd vibrated
round the historic Pier Head. Then, as the race snaked through this
world famous city, a crescendo of Ho! Ho! Ho's! rang out... Just as
the race was coming to the end of the course it began to pour down
again... But that was short- lived and the heavens cleared up for
the children's race. 'Well done' to the thousands of
Santas who took part in what is a very bizarre but highly
entertaining race. At the end of the race, I met up with some of the
organisers in Coffee republic. "We would like to thank every
one who helped us put this event on. Without the support from
Liverpool City Council, The Red Cross, Merseyside Police, Radio City
and the other groups and businesses, too countless to name, we would
not have had such a successful event. This has been the best yet,
and we hope to again build on this in 2010. Please keep your eyes on
our
website and Join the
Liverpool Santa Dash 2010
Facebook group page now."
We were told by another of the event's organisers over a warming cup
of hot chocolate. What always fascinates me, not only the journey in
on the train, but also the journey back, is watching the children's
faces as they see so many Santas pass them on the station. Let's
hope 2010 will be even better, and Happy Christmas to all who took
part...
