Southport Trinity 4 Formby Junior Sports Club 2
Trinity welcomed Formby JSC to the Rookery in a top of the table
clash which proved to be an absolute Christmas cracker.
The game kicked off with both teams looking to get the ball down and
play football. Formby carved out the first chance of the match but
Tom Simpson held well. Aidan Darcy then played in Will Jones who
fired straight at the keeper.
Formby won a corner after Tom Simpson made a great save from their
forward, who then rose above the crowd to head Formby into the lead.
Trinity pushed forward with Liam Parker creating a chance again the
Formby keeper held well. Lewis Harwood then drew Trinity level after
a quick throw down the right, he found himself in the box with space
which allowed him time to smash in off the bar.
Formby came straight back with Conor Ward and Alex Wong standing up
well but they took the lead after a brilliant turn on the edge of
the box. Formby’s forward curled his shot round a player and past
our keeper to make it 2-1.
Trinity again found themselves behind but with half time approaching
Lewis Harwood played Aidan Darcy in down the right who's first time
pass sent Will Jones clear and he finished with great composure to
bring the half to a close all square.
The second half started with Trinity coming out the quicker Jamie
McCormack winning the 50/50 tackles and Lewis Harwood driving them
forward, They created some good chances which were wasted and some
great defending at the other end kept the game tense.
Trinity then took the lead for the first time, with Jimmy Cantrill
latching onto a loose ball in the box, He calmly turned back inside
to lift the ball over the defenders for 3-2.
Formby tried hard to get back into the match and should have drawn
level after their forward held off a couple of tackles and rounded
the keeper only to fire wide.
A late flurry of corners caused panic in Trinity's box but with time
running out and Formby chasing the game Trinity killed the game.
Alex Wong winning the ball on the edge of his own box played Will
Jones in down the left who held the ball up and cooly lifted it over
the last defender for Aidan Darcy to slot home.
Both teams today played some outstanding football with some world
class finishes and creative play, it was a total pleasure to watch.
Trinity's man of the match went to Aidan Darcy for an incredible
captain’s display of pace, passing and a cool finish at the end.
A Mention must go to Ref Alex Baldwin who was outstanding. |
