SHOTS FIRED, GARAGE FORECOURT QUEENS DRIVE / MOSCOW DRIVE
MERSEYSIDE Police are
investigating after reports of shots being fired at a garage
forecourt at the junction of Queens Drive and Moscow Drive at around
3pm on Monday, 25 January 2010. There are no reports of anyone being
injured but the garage doorway has been damaged.
Investigations are at an early stage and although the motive is
unknown, detectives believe this discharge was a targeted attack
against two men who were on foot in the area. The men did not stop
at the scene and officers are currently working to trace them.
Detectives are also working to piece together the events of this
incident but it is thought that the shots were fired by an offender
or offenders travelling in a vehicle, which was seen been driven
erratically in the area at the time.
The garage forecourt has been cordoned off and one lane Queens Drive
northbound has been closed, whilst Crime Scene Investigators carry
out forensic examinations. As a result motorists are advised to
avoid the area while diversions are in place.
Detective Superintendent Martin Andrew said:- "We are
determined to get the guns and people involved in this incident off
the streets of Merseyside. The offenders showed a dangerous
disregard for members of the public who were in the area at the
time, and it is pure good fortune, given the busy road and garage,
that no-one was injured or even killed, as a result of their
actions. We take incidents like this very seriously and are
committed to acting quickly on any information that the community
provides to us. The offender or offenders who carried out this
indiscriminate attack on a busy route need to be caught. I would
therefore appeal to members of the community who have any
information which could help us with our investigation to come
forward. By working together as a community we can make it clear
that we will not tolerate guns on our streets. We are committed to
ensuring that the streets of Merseyside are safe to live, work and
visit for all our communities and we have stepped up patrols in the
area to provide reassurance to members of the public, while
enquiries are on-going. Anyone with any information about this
incident can contact the Matrix team on:- 0151 777 5699 or
Crimestoppers on:- 0800 555 111."
