Under 10 - Town Green Lions 3 Birkdale S 3

Birkdale S visited Town Green Lions on a great day for football.

Both teams got stuck in from the start but it was Birkdale who struck first with Welford scoring his 20th of the season.

Town green managed to get a goal back from a free kick in their own half .

Birkdale fought back and got a free kick on the edge of the box which Casterton floated into the top corner to make it 2-1 to Birkdale.

Town green again managed to pull back from a corner.

Not long after it was Birkdale’s turn and Welford floated a inch perfect corner for Casterton to nod home to give Birkdale a 3-2 lead.

It was looking like a Birkdale win with only three minutes to go but Town Green got the equalizer to make it 3-3.

Under 16 - Billinge 2 West Lancs Colts 3

I was asked by a couple of parents with 15 minutes to go how the game was going and I said I would be happy with a point as WLC played very well. Three minutes later after a soft free kick was spilled by Ant into his own net WLC were jubilant. I was also approached by another parent who was critical of his own son's performance and my answer was that football is a team game and as such it is a collective responsibility when a team lose.

This was a very interesting game as whilst two of the three goals conceded by Billinge were from individual errors, Billinge had many more chances , especially in the first half, to have gone in 3 or 4 ahead at half time.

Billinge did not take their chances however and WLC took theirs to go in only 2-1 at half time. Billinge’s goals coming via a Bradshaw penalty won by Fredders and a Bradshaw shot from the edge of the box, when everyone stopped, looking for a foul.

Billinge, despite their first half seniority were outfought in midfield by WLC in the second half.

The result was that WLC won more ball and despite being behind they deserved their second goal after Ant spilled the ball.

There were still a few chances for Billinge in the second and as a result Billinge looked like they were going to hold on to a 2-2 draw until a soft free kick ended up in the net.

Hearty congratulations must go to WLC who were disciplined and determined and were just good enough to get something from this game.
