Close
of Chinese New Year Celebrations at the Grand Palace, Southport
AS did several
other Chinese restraints in the area, the grand Palace on Nevill
Street, Southport, delayed their celebration of the Chinese New year
of the tiger. Bu boy, was it worth the wait? The restaurant was full
again for the close of the celebrations and diners were served with
5 courses of sumptuous food, excellently cooked, and delivered by
speedy waiters. Soup was followed by an entree of tasty treats after
which there was a pause whilst guests decanted to the street to
watch 2 Lions dancing and prancing in an amazing agile performance
the police diverted the traffic. As usual these dragons/Lions were
practioners of the martial arts, from the Tiger Crane Kung Fu on the
Wirral. After they finished the dance they then put on a
display of marital art movements and katas/hyungs. Back then to the
meal and special rice with 4 accompaniments of flavoursome fish and
meat dishes with a fruit salad to follow. During the alter courses
the dragons reappeared in search of lucky lettuce which was tied to
the ceiling and they took a lively interest in the diners, en route.
The exceeding delightful evening culminated with a grand draw in
which every table won an exceedingly beautiful vase, or painting,
and souvenir decorated mugs and even chopsticks! It was a thoroughly
entertaining and enjoyable evening. The Grand Palace deserves praise
for its service. We’ll be back!!!! Try it yourselves! To contact the
restaurant to book a table, telephone:- 01704 544033 or 01704 543

THE Southport
Haiti Buskathon's final weekend performances were held over
Saturday, 27 February 2010 and Sunday, 28 February 2010, in and
around Southport town centre. The first event was held the week
before and pictures from it can be seen in last week’s edition
(Click
here to see).
The series of arts and performance events throughout February were
put on to raise funds for Haiti. The two charities being supported
are Save The Children and The British Red Cross. All funds raised
will be shared equally between the above two charities. The event
had a wide range of activities led by artist and lecturer Anthony
Wynne and the events publicity officer, Nick Hill. These activities
included art exhibitions, musical events, poetry events and other
performances. All who took part, who in the words of Nick Hill
", used their time and creative energy for this cause."
Well done to all who took part. For more information go
