Redgate Rovers 1 Southport FC Juniors Black 2
The first half was a close encounter with both teams having chances
but Southport’s defence of Thomas Leddy, David Berry, Peter Moretti
and Aaron Richards stayed strong with Jack Lenart making some good
saves.
Late into the half Peter Moretti pushed up and shot from 15 yards
out, the goalie
could only half save the shot and the half went to Southport,
one-nil.
Southport made sweeping changes in the second half as they had to
win the match to go top of the league but Redgate made the better
start and struck home after 10 minutes.
At 1-1 with five minutes to go, Harvey Heaton was pushed back into
defence and Peter Moretti was free to roam up front but the goal
would not come.
With 2 minutes to go it was the substitute Tyler Jervis who scored
the winner when Thomas Leddy put the ball in the box. A deflection
off a Redgate defender placed it at the foot of Tyler who cracked it
into the roof of the net.
The referee played a few extra minutes for stoppages and these last
few minutes were tense but Southport held on and were elated to go
top of this competitive league.
Ryan Harding and Louie Regan played tirelessly as wingers and Sam
Hollindrake held the ball upfront brilliantly.
Overall a great team
effort as all 15 team members played an important part in this vital
match. |
