Kiss Live In Liverpool
KISS came to Liverpool's Arena on
4 May 2010, for the first time ever. The event was one of multiple
dates that have been organized across Europe, under the title
"Sonic Boom Over Europe: From The Beginning To The Boom".
With over 80 million album sales worldwide, KISS remain one of the
most iconic and influential rock bands of all time, so it was going
to be a blast! The band went on to do over 2 hours of high quality
performance. Despite a lower than expected turn out, the band told
us that:- "We are a band who do not disappoint. We want to
give our fans the best show, and that is what we set out to do! It
might not have been the biggest attendance, but we fully enjoyed the
event, and the city. We hope we did our best to please all who
came... This was our first time here and it will not be the last!"
The band’s 35 year career has made them one of, if not the greatest
live rock bands of all times, and as they said, they did not
disappoint. All the fans we talked to came away with a smile... Most
saying how outstanding a performance it was. The band produced an
incredible show, with massive amounts of pyrotechnics, propane
blasts and so many lights, it made Blackpool Illuminations or a
concert at Wembley Stadium look cheap..! This was true American rock
and roll! This was an event that most pop stars could only dream
about delivering. From the second they made their entrance on a
giant platform the band set on course. The opening was a show in
itself as they hit the ground running, by descending onto the stage
on a massive hydraulic arm. That’s not forgetting massive pyros
shaking the stage, flaming torches and over-the-head guitar solos,
and a familiar tongue play... At times could feel the heat on your
face from the propane burners, from as we stood taking shots from
the pits and by the side of the stage. Heaven only knows what Paul
Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer must have been
feeling.... The show’s highlights included the outstanding opening.
As the night went on the blasts got bigger and bigger. At one point
the drummer brought out a fake rocket launcher and pretended to
blast a lighting rig down. With a bright red flash and lots of smoke
a fake rig fell down, to rapturous applause. Other fun things
included a flaming sword, a guitar firing small fountains of sparks
and many other mad explosive tricks. They also had a host of rope
tricks, lifting band members and instruments onto lighting rings and
even at one point winching them across the arena onto a revolving
stage platform in the centre! But it was one of the old classics
from the 80s, It Was a Crazy, Crazy Night, that summed it up for us.
The band’s words and sounds summed up the event in one! Nor can you
forget the band’s signature, God Gave Rock & Roll. He sure did and
He gave us Kiss to perform it for us! True "showmanship",
amazingly friendly and that was not just the band... A big thank you
to the production team, and also to the band’s management must be
said. Let’s hope this mayhem truly does return to our fantastic
city!
