NORTH WEST SMEs
DOWNBEAT ABOUT REGIONAL RECOVERY
FEWER than a quarter of small
business owners in the North West are confident that the region is
well-placed for economic recovery, according to a new survey.
The latest quarterly research from Clifton Asset Management (CAM)
reveals that only 22% of businesses believe that the North West is
in a better position than the UK as a whole to emerge from the
downturn – down from 33 per cent last time.
The most “pessimistic” parts of the country are the
West Midlands and Wales, both on 17%. Meanwhile 75% of business
owners in London felt the capital was better placed than the country
as a whole to capitalise on a return to economic normality.
“Our findings in the North West highlight the fact that two-thirds
of business owners remain generally pessimistic about the outlook in
their area. While the region is by no means the most downbeat, it is
worrying that confidence seems to be heading in the wrong direction
at a time when the UK economy finally looks to be on the road to
recovery.” said Anthony Carty, director at Clifton Asset
Management.
