social business entrepreneurs said:- “We are really excited
about inviting the public to come and explore our brand new Pop-Up
Kitchen on Bold Street and show them what Can Cook does. As well as

buds going!”
Can Cook Studio is a 20 place professional cookery school, based in
the Matchworks in Speke, specialising in evening and weekend courses
in a variety of cuisines including Thai, Chinese, Italian and
Indian.
The Can Cook Studio will be kicking off Liverpool’s cookery
revolution with a summer stay in the heart of the City centre where
they will be instilling a little cooking inspiration in passers by.
The space has been obtained for a period of six weeks in partnership
with Liverpool City Council’s Shops Upfront initiative and Mere Park
Property Development and facilitated by commercial property advisors
CBRE.
Shop’s Upfront was established by Liverpool City Council to enable
artists and entrepreneurs to access empty high street retail units
and transform them with creative displays.
Councillor Wendy Simon, Cabinet Member for Culture and Tourism,
said:- “Shops Upfront is brilliant idea as it allows our
creative sector to help businesses ride through the recession and
vice versa, while adding a vibrant dash of colour to the high street
– so it’s a win-win-win for everyone! There’s some fantastic ideas
in the Shops Upfront pipeline and I’m delighted we’re supporting the
Can Cook revolution – a true home grown success story and anything
that promotes healthy eating in such a fun and accessible way is a
real boost to Liverpool’s Year of Health and Wellbeing."
Neal Hunter from Merepark, the owner of 15 Bold Street and the
developer behind the planned Central Village scheme, said:-
“With Central Village we are creating a sustainable, vibrant
community around Bold Street and Central Station. Initiatives like
the Pop-Up Kitchen will make a great contribution to the atmosphere
of the area and we are delighted to be able to offer our support.”
Upon opening, the Pop-Up Kitchen will house ten state-of-the-art
cookery stations and a chef’s demonstration area, kitted out with
equipment donations from Glen Dimplex Home Appliances, where members
of the public are welcome to come in and try their hand at making
the perfect omelette to compete for a special prize! The Omelette
Challenge leader board will display the best of the best before
inviting the finalists for a Pop-Up Kitchen Cook Off, where one
lucky winner will take home a voucher for two places on a Can Cook
Studio A-Z Weekend course worth over £200!
The Pop-Up Kitchen will feature daily demonstrations from Can Cook’s
resident chefs, Tony, Richie and Alex, as well as a taste of what
you can expect from the evening and weekend cookery courses at the

A FORMULA FOR SUCCESS
Photographs by
Patrick Trollope.
FORMULA 1 chef
Norman Musa was in Formby on Thursday, 15 July 2010 to demonstrate
his cooking skills and to promote his new book. The venue, the
Formby Pool is a long way off from the sort of place he is
accustomed to cooking in, but that did not put this top chef off. He
told guests all about his work with the Lotus F1 Team, as their
official chef and also how he cooked for the royal family. This
fantastic event was organised by Tony Higginson from Prichard’s
Bookshop, Formby and is just one of many events the shop has cooked
up over the last few years. Norman Musa’s book, ‘Malaysian
Cookery' is a formula for cookery success and is available
now from Pritchard’s Bookshop on Brows Lane, Formby. For more
