The beach calmed a car at 11.00pm
on Wednesday night. The Coastguard were contacted at 11:15pm
approximately by 999 and the coastguard suggested the owner should
call the police for help after assessing that their was no danger to
the driver or passengers. A tow truck was called in and the people
refused to pay the £150.00 tow charge to remove the car from the mud
and called the coastguard again at 5:00am by the 999 service. Unfortunately
the coastguard can only help if their are no lives in danger and
could not do any think other than suggest the driver took the offer of
a tow. So by 11am the following day they were still in their car
that the diver had paid £50.00 for in an auction still stuck.
They had refused help from most people and insisted that they should
be pulled out for free. Also completely ignoring the fact that
999 is for emergencies only and people would not risk getting their vehicles
stuck. Not to mention that they had ignored the signs warning people
not to drive past the rope. They were later freed by work men helping
to erect the the air show tents after a very long night
out. The morel to this story is always obey the warning signs
and DO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT ON THE BEACH!
