A ROARING SUCCESS FOR THE BOYS WITH THEIR TOYS!
Report and
photography by Karen Salmon.
THE first Toys for Boys event was held at Old Christ Church over 10 August to 12
August and todate it was the biggest and by far the most adventurous event
hosted by the Friends of Old Christ Church to date. The sun shone as Billy
Butler of BBC Radio Merseyside opened the event and interviewed exhibitors as
visitors steamed through the gates of the once neglected and run down building.
Visitors from all over Southport, St. Helens, Blackpool and even holiday makers
adding it to their sightseeing joined local residents in the fun. Sounds of
buzzing and beeping could be heard throughout the grounds and interior of the
magnificent Grade II* building, as model trains, boats and planes where on show
for all enthusiasts. Huge displays of Meccano structures swung around and
detailed model railway lines, complete with all the buildings, people, animals,
trees and fields signals and lights tooted along the tracks. There where model
trucks and tanks and being remotely moved around the church and visitors could
even pilot an aircrafts on screen. It was a great display!
Outside the Vintage Cars and Military vehicles lined the grounds and the Police
made their presence known as sirens echoed the children listened intently as the
police officer showed them around the police van and let them sit inside. Karen
Salmon a committee member of The Friends of Old Christ Church said:- “The whole
weekend was amazing and the faces of sheer delight could be seen on visitors of
all ages both boy and girl. The whole event saw over 2,500 visitors and was a
tremendous success. It makes every ones hard work worthwhile.”
Through the dedication and hard work from all volunteers, Old Christ Church has
rapidly become a notable community central of Waterloo, that is bringing you
many events regularly throughout the year. The Waterloo Flea Markets starts
again on the 4 September 2010 with the Farmers Market on Friday, 10 September to
and Sunday, 12 September 2010 the Friends are also hosting a Craft, Antiques and
Collectables fair all of which are now well known and not to be missed. Keep
watching your local press for details for more events or visit our

The Friends of Old Christ Church would like to thank all the exhibitors and
