FILM REVIEW:-
"TRON LEGACY"
THIS film has been long awaited and it is true
that good things come to those who wait. This film, shot
in an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 with the Real 3D version and it is
127 minutes of well thought out action on this magical
cellulite. The special effects are not over complicated
and keep to the ideas of the original film, but with a far more
detail and with a smoother feel, in keeping with today’s video
games. Audiences are promised a digital world that’s
unlike anything ever captured on the big screen, and in our view
it achieves it. Just as one of the films advertisement
taglines says:- “The Game Has Changed.”The new film
recaptures that retro feel and puts it into a new perspective
for the audiences of today’s computer gaming society. If
you have never seen the 1980's film Tron, don’t worry as this
film still works as a standalone, but for Tron fans, to coin a
catchphrase from the actors in the new film, it is "Trontastic!" If you do not know
what the film is about, well without spoiling the plot, it is
based around the son of Kevin Flynn, a man trapped in a 1980’s
video game. His 27 year old son returns to his father’s
arcade and finds himself pulled into the digital world of Tron,
where his dad had been living for the last 25 years. His
son finds his dad living with a female called Quorra. As
another of the film's tag lines suggests:- “It is more than just a game.” Sam
Flynn is about to find this new would exceedingly dangerous as
he embarks on a life and death journey of escape across this
digital domain called:- “The Grid”. The music by Daft
Punk fits in very well to this stunning 3D cyber universe. The
background track is full of dramatic sounds, which are sometimes
moving and sometimes just there. Users of the
Tron - Legacy computer game are also treated to even more story
lines that run parallel to the original 1980s film and the
sequel. In fact, it not only fits in with the film, but
adds to both of them. Oddly, unlike most Block Buster film
release computer games, it does not have spoilers in it or
annoying sub storylines that are based around sections of the
new or old film. Sorry, this is a film review, not a
computer game review, but in reality both are a symbiotic
entirety that is Tron. So what is our verdict? The
film is very well edited, with good acting and plot. The
end is a bit Bladerunner in style, but heck, why not..? Also, do
keep an eye out for a bad continuity error with the police
cars. All in all, it is not enough to knock off a point.
We have to give this film 5 out of 5. A good fun film that
is just right for the Christmas season, with a storyline that is
more relevant today than it was back in the 1980’s, with the
ever increasing moves to virtual reality.
