Will there be tiers on Royal wedding day?
THE SEARCH IS ON
for Liverpool’s answer to Will and Kate’s Royal bash.
Registrars in Liverpool are not feeling the love as currently as NO
weddings or civil partnerships are taking place at the Cotton
Exchange on the 29 April 2011. Last April it played host to around
12 of these ceremonies a week. And, even though people can get
married in more than 30 venues across the city such, as the Town
Hall and hotels, only three of these types of weddings are booked!
Liverpool City Council’s Superintendent Registrar, Pat Dobie, said:-
“We’re flummoxed to be honest! When there’s a special occasion
couples are usually clamouring to get married on that date to make
it even more memorable. For example, when it was 08/08/08 we were
overrun with requests from people to marry on that day as it was
such a stand-out date and of course it was our Capital of Culture
year, and in total we married 19 couples. We know Liverpool couples
go all out on their wedding day and put on a show to rival any royal
wedding! So, we want as many loved-up couples as possible to make
the 29 April 2011 their special day to show that anything London can
do, we can do better. And if they’re called Catherine and William,
that’ll be the icing on the wedding cake!”
Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Hazel Williams, said:-
“There’s a lot of love in this city so I’m sure we’ll get more
people tying the knot at the end of April. One thing’s for sure, if
you choose this date you’re guaranteed to have a right royal knees
up!”
