The Craven Minor Under 16 - Report

THE Craven Minor Under 16 Representative Team played in the Semi-Final of the Liverpool County FA Inter-League Competition against the team from the Bootle & Litherland Junior League at a deceptively cold Buckley Hill.

The Craven side were forced to put out a reduced squad because of last minute injuries and non-availability. The regular keeper was unable to play and this meant that Dylan Fitzsimmons, who is normally an outfield player, took the gloves to play in goal.

The first quarter of an hour was evenly matched with most of the play taking place in mid-field and it was not until the first corner of the game, after 15 minutes that a breakthrough was made, with Bootle and Litherland scrambling a goal. The game continued, with chances at both ends, and despite several excellent saves from Dylan and determined defending from the Craven Minor defence, Bootle & Litherland capitalised on another corner to score their second after 25 minutes.

The score remained at 2 - 0 up till half time, but Bootle & Litherland extended their lead shortly after the re-start. The Craven Minor team put up a valiant effort to get back into the game, but despite several excellent saves from their replacement keeper and hard work throughout the team it was always going to be difficult to get back into the game and eventually Bootle & Litherland were able to take advantage of the Craven's push to reduce the deficit, eventually running out 5 - 0 winners.
