CITY PAY PACKETS ROCKET - UNISON RESPONSE
COMMENTING on
research by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr),
which shows that city workers' pay has risen by 7% in a year,
compared to a growth of 2% across the UK as a whole, Dave Prentis,
UNISON's General Secretary, said:- "Public sector workers
facing pay freezes, job losses and rising inflation will be stunned
to hear that pay in the City has rocketed by nearly four times the
national average. The financial sector is doing very nicely in this
recession while, in the real world, low-paid families are left to
pick up the pieces. It cannot be right that the sector that caused
the recession can continue with this champagne lifestyle, while the
economy goes from bad to worse. The Government has abandoned any
attempt at fairness, by taking the easy option to cut deep the
public sector, while dodging decisions about clamping down on the
bonus culture and making everyone pay their fair share."
New
Regeneration Director for Liverpool appointed
NICK Kavanagh
has been appointed as Liverpool City Council’s new Director for
Regeneration and Employment.
The 41 year old, who joined the city council last August as interim
Director for Regeneration, will be tasked with driving forward
Liverpool’s regeneration, as well as boosting job creation and
employment opportunities in the city.
Nick has already achieved a great deal since joining the council
last year, playing a key role in initiatives such as the £350
million redevelopment of the Edge Lane Corridor, the establishment
of the Liverpool Embassy in London and the £150 million Project
Jennifer regeneration scheme. He has also played a major part in
schemes which have created over 300 new businesses and over 500 new
jobs in the city since 2010.
He will be responsible for the city’s major regeneration priorities
and challenges in the coming years, including the delivery of the
£5.5bn Liverpool Waters scheme, working with the Government on
proposals for turnaround facilities at the city’s cruise liner
terminal, and the redevelopment of the city’s two Premier League
football stadiums.
Nick will also be responsible for key Regeneration strategies such
as the North Liverpool Strategic Framework, the City’s approach to
Regional Growth Fund and the Core Strategy element of the Local
Development Framework.
