NORTH WEST RAIL MANAGER WINS
PERSONAL CONTRIBUTION COMMENDATION
THE Northern Rail’s Client
and Stakeholder Manager for the North West, Mark Barker, has been
recognised for his 40 years railway experience by being
‘highly commended’ in the Outstanding Personal Contribution
category at this year’s National Rail Awards. Judges recognised
Mark, who is from Sandbach, as one of the industry leaders when it
comes to engaging stakeholders, putting his extensive experience of
the industry to practice across his patch which covers Greater
Manchester, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Merseyside.
Ian Bevan, Managing Director of Northern Rail, comments:-
"Congratulations to Mark, who works tirelessly to build and maintain
partnerships with local authorities and has been instrumental in
securing major investment in our services across his region. Mark
was a key player in securing the recent improvements to the Hope
Valley timetable."
Judges commented:- "We were particularly impressed with Mark’s
attitude to rail user groups, with whom he is very patient and
understanding and is able to empathise with issues and seek a
solution that works for all parties."
Mark added:- "I am honoured for being recognised for doing
what I’m there for. It’s all about talking to people, explaining how
the railway works, finding out their aspirations and seeing how we
can work together to our mutual benefit. When there are problems you
just have to be honest and tell them what is and what isn’t
possible."

The Greatest
Story Ever Told comes to Liverpool Cathedral
IN Another Place, the
producers of February's sell out Narnia Experience are bringing
their latest large scale production to Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.
Tickets are now on sale for the Greatest Story Ever Told which will
take place in the Well of the Cathedral from 17 October to 19
October 2011.
The Greatest Story Ever Told is an imaginative look at the bible for
the Facebook generation. Told through the perspective of four
teenagers sharing ideas for a homework project it gives the Bible
story a fresh, modern twist. The teenage leads are seen in filmed
segments discussing their project before different parts of the
story come alive in front of the audience's eyes.
The 90min production will make full use of its magnificent setting
with features like the Dulveton Bridge being worked into the
impressive staging.
Administrator Joe Magill pointed out:- "It's a complete
summary of the Bible, although obviously not every single story.
It's not chronological; it works like a jigsaw. It's told through
the experience of four teenagers whose homework task is discovering
the Bible. All the scenes are acted out live backed up with videos
on a big screen with lighting and sound effects."
Artistic Director Annie Spiers said:- "This has been a totally
different event to produce after our Narnia. This time we have been
involved in far more challenging technical work like filming in
silhouette, creating animations and Facebook style narrative. As
ever we have also involved many people from across the community and
churches including 15 different choirs and around 100 people in prop
making. "
The Greatest Story ever Told was written in part by the teenage
leads themselves - Sam D'Auvin, one of the quartet said that:-
"I think that this production is like taking the Bible out of the
book and showing it to people from a modern perspective using
computers and 21st century things that you would not normally relate
to the Bible."
As with February's Narnia Experience, the Greatest Story Ever Told
is for school children in the daytimes; though this time, aimed at
secondary schools years 7,8,9. Schools can book for 10am or 1pm and
even stay on for a workshop for the other half of the day related to
various themes of the production.
Tickets for the evening performances are available at the Cathedral
Shop or at:-
cathedralshop.com.
Price:- £5. Groups discounts for ten people or more at:- £3 per
person. Production not suitable for under 11's.
