Physio joins
world’s top 20 duathletes
PAIN physiotherapist Dave
Lovatt broke through his own pain barrier representing Team GB to
come 20th in the Duathalon World Championships in Gijon, northern
Spain.
52 yearn old Dave, who works for Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS
Trust’s Community Pain Service at Ainsdale, near Southport, came
20th in 50 to 55 category, despite carrying both a hamstring and
Achilles injury. He finished in 2 hours 14 minutes, 11 minutes
behind the winner. The duathalon involves running 10km,
cycling 40km and finishing with a further 5km run.
"I injured myself not long before setting off to Spain so who knows
how well I would have done if I’d been fully fit." said
Dave, who lives in Halewood, Liverpool, with wife Joyce.
Liverpool FC supporter Dave also enjoys triathlons, skiing and
athletics. He started competing in duathlons after having an
operation his knee.
"I needed something less
impactful so I started cycling and the duathlons took off from
there. I hope to keep competing and improving my position. There’s a
duathlon category for people over 75, so there’s plenty of time!"
Dave added. |
