Dogs Trust Merseyside takes in mum
and single pup found wandering the streets
THE Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest rehoming
charity, is looking for a home for stray dog Amber who was found
wandering the streets of Sheffield with her pup, Alistair, just days
old, in her mouth. The duo was rescued from the local pound by
volunteers who then brought them to Dogs Trust Merseyside for
rehoming when they went unclaimed.
Georgina Lowery, Dogs Trust Merseyside Rehoming Centre Manager,
says:- "We have no idea what happened to the rest of the pups
but we are determined that Alistair and his mum will have the best
second chance possible. As is often the case, pups get booked very
quickly and Alistair is no exception. Although he has now found a
home, we are desperate to find Amber a loving family too. She was
very scared when she came to us and protective of her baby, as you
would expect, but has settled well and built up trust with staff at
the centre. She loves cuddles and will greet everyone with a big hug
and kiss!"
Amber is a 3 year old crossbreed. She is a lovely natured dog who
would suit a family with older children. Alistair has been booked
and will be going to his new home shortly.
If you can offer a home to Amber, please call Dogs Trust Merseyside
on:- 0151 480 0660 or visit the rehoming centre at:- Whiston Lane,
Huyton, Liverpool, L36 6HP.
In line with the Dogs Trust slogan ‘A dog is for life, not just for
Christmas’, Dogs Trust Merseyside will be closed for re-homing from
Monday, 19 December 2011 to Monday 2 January 2012. However, members
of the public are welcome to visit the centre during this time and
can reserve dogs.
Labour Joins Front-Line Workers calling on
government to target irresponsible dog owners
THE Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary of
State Mary Creagh and Shadow Minister Huw Irranca-Davies joined
front-line
workers today to demand urgent action to reform legislation on
dangerous dogs and target irresponsible owners. Postal workers and
vets, dog wardens and tradesmen, dog charities and others gathered
outside Parliament calling on the government to bring forward
long-overdue reforms. Labour Shadow Minister Huw Irranca-Davies
said:- "Irresponsible dog owners and their dogs cause
thousands of injuries every year, and occasional fatalities. Despite
there being cross-party agreement before the General Election that
the current dangerous dogs powers needed toughening up, and a review
16 months ago, and agreement across front-line organisations, so far
the Government have done nothing. Nearly 100 people are being
treated in hospital each week for dog attacks since Labour’s
consultation closed last year. Everyone affected by this, victims’
families, dog charities and frontline workers like posties and
midwives, want to see action now. Labour has set out key areas for
urgent action, including the extension of dangerous dogs laws to
cover private property and the introduction of Dog Control Notices."

Formby Nativity
2011
FORMBY Village has held its
annual Nativity play, which was organised by Formby Churches
Together. The setting up of what was to be a highly successful show
started in the early hours of the morning, with background
volunteers like Andy Johnson, who rigged up the audio system and
many others! A large section of Chapel Lane was turned into a
massive stage set on which the cast performed the biblical story.
Performances of Christmas Carols started the play. The 50 strong
cast were joined with real animals to add a touch of 'realism' to
this re-enactment of the birth of Christ. Despite the dreadful
weather, far more people braved the conditions to watch the display
than last year. Most of the performance went to plan, but there were
two slight hiccups with the real donkey, called ‘Baby Doll’, which
provided a few giggles for those who spotted them. Afterwards many
folk dispersed to the local shops to catch up on Christmas Shopping
and to warm up. These are a few photographs we took at the event.
Please enjoy!
