Southport Round
Table Reveals the Definitive Top 40 List
AS men across Merseyside start to think about
making New Year’s resolutions, Southport Round Table has released
its definitive guide to the top male accomplishments to achieve
before reaching the age of 40.
The top 40 list includes a wide range of activities, from obvious
milestones such as ‘completing a bungee jump’ to more
surreal experiences like ‘eating a whole scotch bonnet chilli’.
Many of the items that made the list entail challenges that Round
Tablers are doing all over the world on a weekly basis.
Jason Thomson, vice president of Round Table, said:- "The aim
of the ‘40 things to do before you’re 40’ list is to motivate men
across the UK to get the most out of life. Everything on the list is
achievable and indeed lots of our members have already accomplished
many of the activities through their involvement with Round Table.
We wanted to ensure that men in Southport, and across Merseyside,
continue to aim high and accomplish some amazing things in their
lifetime."
As well as offering once in a lifetime experiences, Southport Round
Table ensures that while men are having fun, their local community
benefits. The club is open to all men aged 18 to 45 who want to give
as much as they get.
Jason continued:- "Almost every man out there will have
already accomplished at least one of the things on the list – most
of us have experimented with growing a moustache, for example, but
for those remaining, Round Table is here to help."

Funding brings
warm glow to vulnerable residents
VULNERABLE Liverpool residents will benefit
from new funding to stay warm this winter thanks to one of the
largest grants of its kind in the country. Following a
successful bid, Liverpool City Council’s Housing Strategy Team has
been awarded £333,000 from the Department of Health’s Warm Homes
Healthy People fund which will help more vulnerable people stay safe
and warm during the winter months, and prevent as many unnecessary
winter deaths as possible. The money will be used to enhance a
number of current schemes including improving insulation in homes,
providing emergency heaters and warm packs which include flasks and
thermal blankets, socks and gloves. Out of the new funding, money
has also been allocated to offer assistance with boiler repairs and
central heating installation.
The city council’s cabinet member for housing, Councillor Ann
O’Byrne, said:- "This is fantastic news and will benefit many
vulnerable residents across the city. It can be a very difficult
time of year for elderly people and it’s important they have enough
support and advice to make sure they are prepared for the cold
winter months. This money means we can help even more people than we
initially thought and will help to spread some Christmas cheer
around our communities. A big thank-you must go out to the Housing
Strategy Team whose hard work and commitment made this invaluable
extra funding possible."
As a result of the extra funding, community organisations and
charities will be supported to deliver services to help vulnerable
residents stay safe during extreme weather conditions, preventing
slips, trips and falls and reducing social isolation.
Liverpool was awarded the grant as a result of the existing
effective partnerships in place which help some of the most
vulnerable members of the community.
The city council works
closely with colleagues in the Healthy Homes Team and partners from
Local Solutions, Fire Support Network, The British Red Cross,
Liverpool Primary Care Trust and Community Foundations for
Merseyside.
