Local security
team is best in the region!
A local team of security
officers from Liverpool scooped the Best Team award in the North
West round of the British Security Industry Association’s (BSIA)
Security Personnel Awards 2012.
The OCS security team at Kings Dock on Liverpool’s waterfront, a
prime tourist destination came out on top after a particularly
competitive nomination process, thanks to the consistently positive
work they have been carrying out at the estate for the past five
years. The team of 7 provides manned guarding, CCTV, event
management, financial reconciliation, customer service, occupier
liaison and personal and public safety duties for the 2.25 sq mile
site, comprising the successful Liverpool Echo Arena and BT
Convention centre, 2 Hotels, multi storey car park; residential
apartment buildings and restaurants. The team also administer a
permit holders car park, pay and display and a 54 space coach park
together with the financial administration.
The success of the team is down to close cooperation, endless
enthusiasm and the strong relationships built with the landowners
Homes and Communities Agency, CBRE managing agents, the occupiers,
police and the local council.
"Individually and collectively each member of the security
team undertakes their role and responsibilities in a professional
and thorough manner. Importantly, they provide added value by
encouraging and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all
occupiers," said John Sloan, Estates Manager at the Kings
Waterfront.
Steven Gardner, from OCS Group UK Ltd, added:- "Prior to the
company undertaking the contract, there was extensive damage to cars
located on the docks and anti-social behaviour. Thanks to our
security team’s dedication and liaison with the local police, the
level of incidents has been reduced to zero. Each member of the team
has often gone above and beyond their call of duty. Examples have
included assisting people intent on self-harming or rescuing
attempted suicides from the inland dock. The staff clearly enjoy
what they do and their enthusiasm, professionalism and dedication is
a credit to all of their efforts."
Sean Morrison, Site Manager for the winning team, commented on their
victory:- "We constantly strive to improve our working
practices, procedures and training in order to develop our team to
be the best it can be. All the officers are passionate about their
profession and we are extremely proud that our efforts have been
recognised not only by the client, the police and the public, but
also by the BSIA."
The wining team was handed the regional award at a presentation by
the BSIA on the 9 of February, and will now be put forward to the
national judging phase. If successful on the second round, they will
be invited to attend the BSIA’s prestigious annual lunch on the 27
June 2012, where they will be presented with the national award.
The BSIA would like to thank Camberford Law plc - specialist
insurance brokers to the security industry - for their continued
support, having sponsored the awards since their inception 14 years
ago.

part of the Voices Festival. 15 choirs performing one after the
other throughout the day will truly showcase and celebrate the
diversity of the a cappella genre. We’re looking for all types of
choirs from religious choruses and beat box groups to choirs who’ll
perform popular numbers or classics in an a cappella arrangement to
take part. It’s exciting to be searching for the choirs to take part
in this year’s festival and to be able to offer such an incredible
platform to showcase new talent. It’s great to use this opportunity
to invite other talented singers to be involved in the festival."
Sense of Sound is one of the most unique and inspirational companies
in the UK today. Led by four female directors; Jennifer John,
Saphena Aziz, Juliet Russell and Perri Alleyne-Hughes, the
organisation aims to create and produce amazing ways to celebrate
singing and the Voices Festival is no exception. From hip hop to
barbershop and contemporary jazz to choral, the Voices Festival will

a close on Sunday, March 18 will be a free day of family fun with
