Meet the Deans
at St Helens Theatre Royal...
AUDIENCES should be
preparing to meet a Liverpudlian family with a heart of gold, on
stage from 10 June to 16 June 2012, at the St Helens Theatre Royal.
Meet
the Deans is a hilarious play full of warm, Scouse humour and a
dollop of drama in each and every day. Starring and directed by
Liverpool actress and star of Channel 4’s Shameless, Tina Malone,
Meet the Deans introduces us to a family full of love, laughter and
laugh out loud family banter.
Tina Malone plays Mrs Dean, queen of the household and a frazzled
mother hen to her adult children, all of whom still live at home.
Amongst the humour however, we learn that daughter, Jess (played by
Sarah Donovan) was born with a congenital heart defect; her only
long-term chance of survival being a heart transplant, and soon.
The play was inspired by writer, Kerry Williams', own experience of
her sister-in-law who suffered a similar condition and was placed on
the waiting list for a heart transplant, with a positive outcome.
Williams' portrayal of a normal family in exceptional circumstances
succeeds in touching the hearts of the audience, whilst providing
plenty of laughs along the way too.
Audiences will also meet Jess' errant brother, Jimmy, always on hand
to provide shocking stories from the back of his cab; second brother
Joseph is a bundle of camp fun and self-obsessed sister Hannah has
so much fake tan on her that she glows; then there's the youngest
Chris, allergic to desk jobs but still makes a tidy income, selling
his home grown produce from his bedroom, he's oblivious to the
problems around him; or is he?
Director and star of Meet The Deans, Tina Malone, explains:-
"This play is very special to me as it was written by my close
friend and talented writer, Kerry. ‘Meet the Deans’ has also given
me the opportunity to work alongside my daughter Dannielle, who is
an actor on Hollyoaks, and also my husband Paul Chase-Malone who
will perform on stage for only the third time. It is always
invigorating to perform on stage and the beauty of this play is,
without wanting to sound clichéd, it’s a theme that’s universal but
it is set in Liverpool. It’s funny, warm, and humorous and is for
all ages. It’s a beautiful play to perform and to return to St
Helens Theatre Royal, where I have performed several times, is
fantastic as it’s a wonderful theatre."

EU lets car
manufacturers off the hook
CAR manufacturers have been
told that they will not be prosecuted for failing to comply with an
EU law requiring them to reduce the global warming effects of air
conditioning systems. Enterprise and Industry Commissioner, Antonio
Tajani, has announced that they will be given an extra 2 years to
comply. But his decision has prompted a furious response from an MEP
involved in making the legislation. Chris Davies, the Liberal
Democrat environment spokesman, claims that the Commissioner has
backtracked on declarations it has made repeatedly to the European
Parliament. Davies has now demanded that Tajani explains himself in
person to MEPs on the European Parliament’s Environment committee.
He said:- "Car manufacturers are being allowed to put two
fingers up to the legislative process. This will send a signal that
industry can ignore rules intended to protect the environment."
