Surprise for
guest at JLA official lounge opening
IT was an opening ceremony
with a difference for one lucky guest attending last night's
official opening of the new Sevisair ASPIRE premium lounge at
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA). Believed to be amongst the best
in the UK, Servisair's new £250,000 'Aspire by Servisair'
Airport lounge is the first of Servisair's distinctive, modern,
high quality lounges to be developed outside of London.
To mark the official opening, the Airport Company decided to give
invited guests the chance of having their very own
'claim-to-fame', by drawing from the hat the name of one
guest to be given the honour of officially declaring the lounge open
and unveiling a commemorative plaque. Lesley Martin-Wright,
Chief Executive of Knowsley Chamber of Commerce was drawn out and
subsequently opened the lounge. The commemorative plaque will be
taken away to have her name added before being re-installed for all
future lounge visitors to see. As the biggest airport lounge
operator in the UK, Servisair are currently rolling out the new
Aspire Lounge concept to a number of airports in Europe, each
individually designed to meet the needs of different passengers and
reflect the identity and culture of their location. The
lounge is a total of 249 sq. metres and can comfortably seat up to
97 passengers; twice as many as the Airport's previous executive
lounge.
Craig Richmond, CEO Peel Airports commented:- "This is a
superb, high quality addition to the facilities here at the Airport
for our passengers to take advantage of and the feedback from
everyone here today has been extremely positive. I'm sure it's not
everyday that Lesley is invited to open a facility such as this and
then have her name engraved on a plaque to commemorate the occasion,
but she certainly performed her official duty as well as any
celebrity I've seen do this"
Lesley, who also received a couple of complimentary lounge passes
added:- "One for the family photo album for sure. I could get
quite used to this celebrity lifestyle but I suspect it'll be a one
off. However you don't need to be a celebrity to use this lounge and
I'm sure this great facility will prove popular with many of the
Airport's passengers."
A couple from
Merseyside have been honoured for their bravery at the Police Public
Bravery Awards 2012
THE annual ceremony is a
way of recognising outstanding acts of courage by the public, who
selflessy act to help victims of crime. Clive and Barbara Chislett,
of Sefton, were commended with silver medals at the event for their
heroic actions which saved an elderly widow's life. On
November 15, 2011, at around 12.15pm, the couple rushed into the
house next door belonging to Dorothy McCulley, 76, after hearing
screams from her house. They found Mrs McCulley being horrifically
beaten by an invader who was attempting to strangle her. With
no regard for her own safety, Mrs Chislett rushed inside telling the
man to stop, however she was punched in the face by the attacker,
who then pushed her aside in an attempt to escape. Mr Chislett then
intervened and was attacked himself, only narrowly escaping by
hitting the assailant with a brick in the shoulder. The couple
stayed with Mrs McCulley and comforted her until the police arrived.
The attacker escaped, however thanks to a detailed description by
the couple, police were able to identify and arrest a suspect based
on CCTV footage of a man fleeing the area. The couple helped
pick the suspect out of an identity parade and his identity was
verified by his injured shoulder, where Mr Chislett had hit him with
the brick. The attacker, Neil Lovell, was given an indeterminate
sentence.

Peppa Pig heads
for Birkenhead
THE popular TV star and her little brother,
George, will be on hand at The Grange and Pyramids Shopping Centres
to give local youngsters a half term holiday treat.
The duo, who appear in a cartoon on Channel 5, will be at the busy
shopping centres between 11 am and 4 pm on 6 June 2012.
The UK based cartoon, thought to be worth £200m, is now shown in 180
countries and last year, a theme park, Peppa Pig World was opened in
Hampshire with 60 rides. Aimed at children aged 2 and above,
the programme won a children's Bafta in 2005 for best pre-school
animation.
Peppa Pig episodes feature situations that are familiar to small
children, including dressing up, playing games, going to playgroup,
car journeys and getting ready for bed. The stories sometimes
involve a few tears; but always end in snorts of laughter.
Derek Millar, Commercial Director for The Grange and Pyramids
shopping centres, is thrilled at the prospect of welcoming Peppa and
this time, she will be joined by her little brother George. He
said:- "We thought it would be lovely to introduce a bit of
fun for our shoppers and their families during half term.
Peppa Pig is a hugely popular television character so we were
expecting a big response from parents and children alike.
Peppa first came to us 3 years ago; but this time it is doubly
exciting because we are also welcoming her little brother George
too!
For the uninitiated, Peppa Pig is a lovable but slightly bossy
little pig. She is five years old and lives with Mummy Pig, Daddy
Pig and her little brother, George in a house that sits on top of a
little green hill.
Peppa Pig likes playing with Suzy Sheep, her best friend, visiting
Granny and Grandpa Pig and looking after George. Most of
all, Peppa Pig loves jumping up and down in muddy puddles, laughing
and making loud snorting noises." Peppa Pig and George will be at the Grange and Pyramids Centres from
11 am to 4 pm on 6 June 2012.

Jubilee with 'The Queen'
HER Majesty will make an
appearance at a Merseyside arts festival this June, albeit on screen
in the form of Oscar-winning actress Dame Helen Mirren. The hit 2006

Choir and local soprano Laura Hudson. In a free talk on Saturday, 23
June 2012, Liverpool John Moores University scholar Rosemary Tyler

town that boasts ties to Shakespeare, Henry VIII and Lord Nelson.
"We've always strived to reflect our heritage and history in the
festival. We're proud to be joining the rest of the nation in
celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee this year." said Artistic
Director Dr Robert Howard. Dr Howard added:- "As
usual, there's a bit of everything on the programme, from classical

along and enjoy the festival." The Eighth Annual
