Elton Johns Gig's In Blackpool
THE first major open air concert at the new
Tower Festival in Blackpool attracted 20,000 people, headlining Sir
Elton John. After the stage had been awash thanks to a day long
deluge of rain, but thankfully for the many fans, the rain eased
prior to Sir John come on to the stage. But the weather that had
already affected most of the day was not going to give up and the
event was sadly cancelled after just 2 hours. After being advised by
the Police, the singer who is ironically best know for his song
'Candle In The Wind', agreed that the health and safety
of his audience came first. As the weather worsened, under the
shadow of the world famous seaside resort's tower, he told the
crowd:- "I have been told there is some really bad weather on
the way. The Police say you need to leave right now in an orderly
fashion. I'm sorry, but I don't want anyone to be hurt. I'll make it
up to you." It is unclear as to how he will "make it
up." but many who attended agreed that he did the correct
thing. The resort will play host to an Olympic
Torch gig, Friday, 22 June 2012
and Saturday, 23 June 2012 as it sets off towards Preston on the
final visit to the North West. These photographs where taken by Ian
Fairbrother for us of Sir Elton John; as he played some of hits hits
in that short time on stage, on Saturday, 16 June 2012. Some of the
tunes he did get to play included the hit 'Rocket Man'
and 'Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting' Whether
you love a good classical concert or good old rock 'n' roll,
Blackpool has plenty to offer this year with its program of live
music events.
