Southport
Carnival, Armed Forces and Veterans Weekend 2012, did you go?
THIS
year Southport put on a fantastic
weekend to rise money for the armed forces charities and other
charities along the way. With what was a very busy
schedule of events, from holding a Falklands Display in
Southport's Town Hall, to a large event on Princes Park, a
service at the War Memorial and the
Southport Veterans Day
Charity Carnival, to name
just a few of the events. Sadly the weather was extremely
bad for most of the weekend, and that did affect attendance and
even stopped some of the displays from being erected on Princes
Park, but it did not dampen the spirit of those taking part.
Even the young children walking and performing in the Carnival
carried on as a torrent of rain poured down on them, as a
thunderstorm loomed overhead. One child from a dance group
taking part in the parade, still dripping wet at the end said:-
"I fully enjoyed it." Not what we expected to
hear! Sunday was a better day in the end, but again
it was a damp and dull start, but thankfully the sun did emerge.
Sadly to late for getting the crowds in. Lets hope we can
honour our military heroes next year under blue skies and also
raise even more cash for charity. If you took part in the
weekends activities, please do let us know what you thought
about them. Email us to:-
