The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign,

muscular dystrophy. Participants are asked to try to raise at least

sponsorship pack as well as a free Santa suit.
Charles Horton, Volunteer Fundraising Manager for the Muscular
Dystrophy Campaign said:- "I urge the people of Merseyside to
take part in the Santa Dash in December for us and help us continue
our work offering hope to people affected by neuromuscular
conditions. The run promises to be a great event with everyone in
the festive spirit and it will be a real spectacle as thousands of
Santa's go jogging through the streets of Liverpool!"

Approximately 8,000 children and adults in the North West are
directly affected by muscle disease, a condition which causes
muscles to progressively waste and weaken. Muscle disease can cause
disability and an early death.
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is the leading UK charity focusing
on muscle-wasting disease. It has pioneered the search for
treatments and cures for more than 50 years, and is dedicated to
improving the lives of all children and adults affected by muscle
disease.
We fund world-class research to find effective treatments and cures;
provide practical information, advice and emotional support for
individuals, their families and carers; campaign to raise awareness
and bring about change; award grants towards the cost of specialist
equipment; and provide specialist education and development for
health professionals.
Royal National
Lifeboat Institution at St Luke's Church
ON Saturday, 28 July 2012,
St Luke's Church, Formby, held a fund raising event on behalf of the
Royal National Lifeboat Institution in the now well established
Meeting Room's Lifeboat Cafe. The Cafe opens every Friday and
Saturday during the Summer season and, on this occasion, they went
the extra mile with RNLI goods on sale inside and out. There was
entertainment by the stirring Liverpool Sea Shanty Group, which was
thoroughly enjoyed by all, as was a performance by St Luke's Formby
Puppet Ministry, which enthralled and inspired the youngsters and
older members too. Some lucky visitors were also able to catch sight
of a happy bride and groom coming and going to their ceremony in the
adjacent church. Here are a few sample snaps we captured.

Recycle clothes,
raise funds, reward yourself!
BHS store in Liverpool are
marking the launch of their new Autumn collections and Back to
School campaign, by inviting families across Liverpool to clear-out
their clothes to support the NSPCC.
For every bag of clothes donated via the NSPCC's official partner
Clothes Aid, BHS will give shoppers a £5* voucher to spend in-store.
The NSPCC will receive £300 for every tonne of clothing collected,
the equivalent of around 200 bags.
To take part, members of the public across Liverpool should fill a
large bag with their unwanted clothes, shoes, belts and bags, and
call Clothes Aid's helpline on:- 08450 722 780 to arrange a
convenient collection time.
A £5 BHS shopping voucher will be given
for each full bag of clothing collected.
The money raised by the new scheme will help to make a massive
difference to the lives of children and young people in Liverpool
and across the UK. It could pay for more ChildLine counsellors to
answer contacts from children by phone and online; help the NSPCC
answer more calls from adults with concerns about a child; and
enable the charity to develop its pioneering services for children
who have suffered abuse and harm.
The recent WRAP report found that the average UK household owns
around £4,000 worth of clothes and around 30% of clothing in
wardrobes has not been worn for at least a year. An estimated £140
million worth (around 350,000 tonnes) of used clothing goes to
landfill in the UK every year, creating a huge amount of unnecessary
waste. The BHS and Clothes Aid clear out campaign provides an easy
way to help the environment, and reward yourself for doing so whilst
donating to a good cause too!
Emma Taylor, corporate fundraising manager at the NSPCC said:-
"Clearing out old clothes is a great way for people to support
the NSPCC. The charity relies on the generosity of the general
public and the money raised through this fantastic promotion will
help the NSPCC to continue to protect vulnerable children."
Since 2006, BHS has raised over £1million for the NSPCC and has
committed to continue to raise more money through 2012/2013.
The scheme will run from 1 August 2012, until 30 September 2012, and
BHS vouchers can be redeemed until, 31 October 2012.
Tall Ships to
sail into city!
A fleet of Tall Ships will
sail into Liverpool as the city plays host to the inaugural Irish
Sea Tall Ships Regatta. From Wednesday, 29 August 2012, around 14
Tall Ships will arrive in majestic style on the waterfront, having
departed from Dublin 3 days earlier.
To celebrate their arrival in the city, a series of events will take
place, starting on Friday, 31 August 2012, when the crews of the
Tall Ships will take to the streets in a colourful and vibrant
parade, before being presented with the race and port prizes.
During the weekend of 1 September and 2 September 2012 the Tall
Ships will be berthed at the Albert Dock and there will be street
theatre, music and arts and crafts stalls. The vessels will be open
to the public during the weekend, before taking part in a parade of
sail on the Sunday which will take place from around 10.30am.
6 lucky trainees from the Merseyside Adventure Sailing Trust taking
part in the Regatta and took part in a challenge, on Tuesday, 31
July 2012. They were put through their paces on board Liverpool's
very own Tall Ship, Kathleen & May. All 6 had to go 'going aloft',
involving climbing the ship's 60 foot high rigging!
Welcoming the trainees on the vessel was Liverpool's Lord Mayor,
Councillor Sharon Sullivan and Peter Cardy, Chief Executive of Sail
Training International; the charity organising the Irish Sea Tall
Ships Regatta.
Councillor Sullivan said:- "To be the final destination for
this inaugural activity is a coup for the city and all the events
being organised will be a celebration of Liverpool's strong and
proud maritime heritage. Nautical events are always extremely
popular, and we can guarantee people will turn out in their
thousands to see these beautiful vessels taking pride of place on
our waterfront. I'm particularly pleased that there is the
opportunity for those just honing their sea-legs to get involved in
this race, it will be an amazing experience and sailing back into
Liverpool as a climax to the regatta will be unforgettable."
Places are still available for trainees of any age to take part and
anyone interested should visit:-
sailtraininginternational.org.
Peter Cardy said:- "Liverpool has a rich maritime history and
has been a great friend to sail training which has helped to develop
a strong willingness throughout the Tall Ships family to return to
the city. We hope that the Irish Sea Tall Ships Regatta could become
a recurring fixture in the busy calendar of events that is enjoyed
by the residents of Liverpool as well as the many visitors to this
fantastic city."
Peter Cronin, Business Development Manager at Albert Dock Liverpool
said:- "We're thrilled that Albert Dock Liverpool is hosting
Tall Ships. Before it was the leading tourist destination it is
today it was a bustling port filled with ships. We're very excited
to get a taste of what the Dock would have been like then when the
14 Tall Ships are berthed here."
