Abseiling on
Liverpool's iconic Anglican Cathedral
Photographs and report by
Colin Trollope
UPON a very pleasant summer’s afternoon, on 10
August 2012, some very adventurous people caused an ever changing
crowd of onlookers, and supporters to stand, watching, on the drive,
leading up to the East End of Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral. You
may well ask:- “What were they watching?” The answer
is, they were there to see, and cheer on, some intrepid people
abseiling down from the roof. Among those ladies and gentlemen were
clergymen, climbers and ones who had never abseiled before. Some
said they were brave, others stated that they thought they were
daft, but, however, they were proud of them because they were doing
it for charitable reasons. Some had donations of over £1,000 for
what they were supporting! One of them, was the Vicar of St Luke’s
Church, Formby, who was doing the abseil to raise money for
reordering the East End of that Church. ‘Well done’
was everyone’s comment, especially as one of them was afraid of
heights! Here are some photographs of some carrying out the perilous
descent.
