THE weather forecast was rather worrying, but
on the day it was fine! From 12 noon till 4pm in Formby’s Duke
Street Park there was a FREE Fun
Day on Saturday 11 August 2012. It was a gift to the Formby
Community, which was organised and supported by the local Churches
and the Formby Parish Council. Although it was mainly geared for
children under 12, many adults expressed their pleasure and
enjoyment of the afternoon’s free activities. Yes, everything, was
free, even the refreshments so kindly supplied by Waitrose (BBQ) and
Marks and Spencer (Fruit & Cream); there was also a drinks stall,
non-alcoholic of course. Children and adults were able to Zumba
Dance. A Bouncy Castle was very popular for some of the younger ones
who attended the Fun day. The Pine Pixies Preschool Group supplied
and maintained a play area. Rides on the Train, Go-carts and on
Donkeys supplied by Halsall Donkeys. The Merseycats, as well as the
Formby Vikings Skiffle Band, performed at various times, as did the
talented Formby Puppets. Performances were also made by the local
West Lancs Dog Display Team, Slgian Wizard, S and R Show Birds and a
Circus Clown (Circus Frank) from Liverpool. Among the stalls one
could find a Craft area, Floral Art, St John Ambulance First Aid,
Red Squirrels, Art Workshop, Family Competition, and many other
interesting stalls like the Jewellery Take-away. It was all a joint
effort by Formby Christian Fellowship, Holy Trinity Redgate, Holy
Trinity, Saint Jerome’s, Saint Peter’s, Saints Luke’s, Our Lady of
Compassion, and Formby Methodist Churches.
