MOBO Awards 2012
Photographs and report by Patrick Trollope.
THE MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Awards were
held in Liverpool on Saturday, 3 November 2012. This was the 17th
MOBO to be held and this annual event’s second time in Liverpool.
This year’s event was celebrated by a host of top stars of screen,
sport, music and TV and, when described by a reporter in the US,
they likened it to the "Oscars" for the music world.
With the likes of JLS arriving in Liverpool in a specially-chartered
Easyjet flight, it is no wonder why the US reporter said that! The
start of the night set the tone for the rest of the event and the
focus was on the red carpet. This carpet was the place for many of
the stars to strike up a pose for the world’s press, and in turn
showing off a vast range of fashion styles, from the stunning white
dress of Rita Ora, to the shiny dresses, like Rebecca Ferguson's
silver dress. One of the eye-catching outfits featured on the night
was worn by Lauren Pope. She wore a very interesting black number.
But that was only part of the story, as the MOBOS are not a fashion
show! Billed as "The hottest urban music event on the British
calendar in 2012" you had to expect some good tunes...
stepping up and delivering to a packed out Liverpool Arena were
Emeli Sandié, Labrinth, Conor Maynard, JLS, Wiley, Stooshe, Angel,
Trey Songz, Dionne Warwick and many others. Also attending
where members
of the Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes's family jetted in from
the USA, specially for the event.
Back stage you could not help but bump into special guests, VIP's
and A-listers. The most amazing thing was watching the acts back
stage, as they posed in ablaze of flashes from cameras, after
receiving their awards. For Emeli Sande, the night brought not 1 but
3 awards! Well done! an amazing achievement... All
of the acts we spoke to had high praise for Liverpool and its people
and many of them thanked us for making them feel so welcome.

MOBO founder Kanya King MBE said:- "Liverpool
has honoured us with a particularly special MOBO Awards. Each
year were staggered by the calibre of the talent on display his
year's has been no exception to that rule. Tonight has been a
night for not only home grown talent, such as Emeli Sandi and Plan
B, but also less represented genres of music such as gospel, jazz
and African which are equally important for MOBO. thank you
Liverpool for helping to make this the best MOBO yet!"
