Magical Christmas Safari Special - Father Christmas visits Knowsley Safari Park

THIS year, Father Christmas will be visiting Knowsley Safari Park to make sure that the animals and visitors are all ready for Christmas.  Arriving on a magical husky-drawn carriage, Father Christmas will be hosting a one-off, festive breakfast, on 22 December 2012; for all the mummies, daddies and little ones who would like to meet him ahead of the big day.

Children will get to put their lists to Father Christmas, listen to Christmassy stories and carol singers, courtesy of The Salvation Army, and receive a Christmas gift. There are, however, limited places available at his breakfast table, and he will be checking his list twice to make sure his guests have been nice! To book the experience contact:- 0151 430 9009.

Each weekend throughout December, the Park will be infused with festive flavour, including story time with Santa, and a 20 foot sparkling Christmas tree. Visitors will also be able to see what happens on the Safari drive as Christmas approaches, from the winter preparations for the lion cubs celebrating their first Christmas to the Siberian tigers basking in the cold.

Creative children can also drop into special seasonal workshops, where they can learn about the continued commitment to conservation at Knowsley Safari Park whilst making festive favours they can take back home. What's more, the Park has slashed its admission prices for the whole family this winter, making it easier to visit the animals of the safari.

Eveline de Wolf, Head of Animals at Knowsley Safari Park comments:- "The animals and keepers are so excited about meeting Father Christmas this December and sharing the experience with our visitors.  Winter is an exciting time of year at the Park, and keepers are busy getting the animals ready for the colder weather. We always make sure that our animals are comfortable in their environment, with some additional preparations for the British climate such as additional bedding and heated animal housing."

* Tickets for breakfast with Santa are £10 per child + entrance fee (children 12 months + require a ticket)

British premier stage adaptation comes home to Southport

ON Saturday 1 December, Southport will play host to the British premier tour of Thomas Hardy's classic novel 'A Pair of Blue Eyes.' This rare theatrical event is to be performed at Southport College theatre by Southport-based theatre company Rubaduk Productions. This show will be the final leg of a tour that has taken in places such as Liverpool, Wigan and St Helens.

Set in the 1870s, the play tells the story of the beautiful Elfride Swancourt who has lived a life of seclusion in a small Cornish village until the arrival of 2 strangers shatters that peace and tranquillity forever. Comic and tragic in equal measures, a tale of human fragility unfolds as Elfride is carried away by forces beyond her control.

'A Pair of Blue Eyes,' serialised between 1872-73, was Hardy's third published novel and proved an immediate success for the young up and coming author. Indeed, the term 'cliffhanger' originates from one of the novel's many moments of suspense.

Artistic Director, David Sedgwick said:- "A Pair of Blue Eyes is Hardy's most biographical novel and his most emotionally charged work. The play deals with ideas we are all familiar with – love, jealousy and betrayal. 'Blue Eyes' is a great story with great characters – if you are a fan of Downton Abbey or if you love a great story then don't miss it."

The performance starts at 7.45pm and all tickets are on offer at the special price of only £5.   To reserve tickets call:- 01704 222808. To book online:- Rubaduk.net.
